Qualifications

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with physicians and leadership.

A hospital is seeking a proven nursing leader to oversee the overall performance, direction, and success of its Emergency Services department. This position is responsible for advancing clinical quality, strengthening team performance, improving operational outcomes, and ensuring an exceptional patient experience. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership capabilities, a collaborative approach, and a history of driving meaningful improvements within a fast-paced emergency care environment.

Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative and operational leadership for all Emergency Services functions.
  • Establish department priorities and execute initiatives that support quality care, service excellence, and operational effectiveness.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop staff while fostering a culture focused on accountability, respect, teamwork, and professional growth.
  • Evaluate workflow processes and implement solutions that improve efficiency, patient access, and departmental performance.
  • Utilize performance metrics and department data to identify opportunities for improvement and measure outcomes.
  • Collaborate with physicians, clinical leaders, and support departments to promote effective communication and coordinated care delivery.
  • Direct staffing strategies to ensure appropriate coverage, employee productivity, and high-quality patient care.
  • Guide hiring, onboarding, coaching, performance evaluations, and succession planning efforts.
  • Oversee departmental financial performance, including budget planning, resource management, and expense monitoring.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, safety initiatives, and hospital policies.
  • Lead quality improvement efforts aimed at enhancing patient outcomes and strengthening operational results.
  • Address escalated patient, employee, and operational concerns while facilitating timely resolution.
  • Promote employee engagement and retention through visible leadership, recognition, communication, and staff development.
  • Build productive working relationships across departments and with key external stakeholders.
  • Support emergency preparedness activities and departmental readiness initiatives.
  • Recommend and implement best practices that support sustainable long-term success.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing required.
  • Master's degree in Nursing, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Active Registered Nurse license in good standing.
  • Several years of nursing experience within an Emergency Department setting.
  • Previous leadership experience managing teams, operations, and department performance.
  • Demonstrated success improving operational outcomes and leading performance improvement initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of emergency services operations, staffing models, and patient care delivery.
  • Experience developing employees, building cohesive teams, and improving staff engagement.
  • Knowledge of quality standards, patient safety practices, accreditation requirements, and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience overseeing budgets, resource allocation, workforce planning, and productivity management.
  • Ability to interpret operational data, identify trends, and implement effective solutions.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to work effectively with physicians, staff, and leadership teams.
  • Proven ability to lead through change, gain employee buy-in, and successfully execute department initiatives.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical record systems, reporting tools, and other healthcare technology platforms.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining focus on patient care, employee engagement, and departmental goals.
