Job summary

St. Peter’s Hospital in Helena, Montana seeks a Director of Diagnostic Imaging to provide strategic and operational leadership for a comprehensive imaging department supporting patients across a broad range of services.

The leader will oversee approximately 60–70 FTEs, ensure high-quality, efficient, patient-centered imaging services, and develop partnerships with radiologists, clinicians, and educational programs to sustain growth and clinical excellence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• AART and/or NMTCB certification required.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day leadership of imaging operations, including staffing, scheduling, patient throughput, resource utilization, and workflow optimization.
• Oversee 60–70 FTEs and ensure high-quality, efficient, patient-centered imaging services.
• Build relationships with local educational programs to develop future talent pipelines for MRI, CT, ultrasound, and other modalities.
• Partner with radiologists, providers and interdisciplinary leaders to foster collaboration and effective communication.
• Lead strategic planning for imaging, including capacity planning, technology assessment, service development, and expansion to additional clinics.

The Position

The Director of Diagnostic Imaging will provide strategic and operational leadership for a comprehensive imaging department supporting patients across a broad range of services and care settings.

• The Director will oversee approximately 60–70 FTEs, this leader will ensure high-quality, efficient, patient-centered imaging services while supporting the organization’s continued growth.
• The department includes 3 MRI units, 3 CT scanners, 12 X-ray rooms, 6 ultrasound units, nuclear medicine, mammography, PET, and C-arm capabilities. This leader will help ensure the department remains positioned to meet evolving clinical and operational needs.
• Provide day-to-day leadership of imaging operations, including staffing, scheduling, patient throughput, resource utilization, and workflow optimization. The Director will maintain a highly functional operation while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and ensure imaging capacity keeps pace with organizational growth.
• This leader will be responsible for building relationships with local educational programs and developing future talent pipelines will be important to maintaining adequate staffing across specialized modalities such as MRI, CT, and ultrasound.
• The Director will partner closely with rRadiologists, providers and interventional radiologists, as well as physicians and interdisciplinary leaders throughout the organization. Success in this role will require a relationship-focused leader who can foster collaboration, communicate effectively, and build strong partnerships across clinical teams.
• Lead strategic planning for dDiagnostic Iimaging, including capacity planning, technology assessment, service development, and opportunities to expand imaging services into additional clinic locations.
• The ideal candidate will be a collaborative, relationship-driven imaging leader with strong operational and strategic capabilities who can balance the demands of daily department management with long-term planning.
