Job summary

The City of San Juan Capistrano is seeking a dynamic Director of Development Services to plan, direct, manage, and coordinate the department’s activities, including development applications, advanced planning, and ensuring General Plan compliance with state statutes. The role administers housing programs and supports the City Manager with complex, high-priority projects.

The ideal candidate brings strategic leadership, collaboration across departments, and a hands-on approach to project delivery

Qualifications

Energetic and collaborative community development professional with strong understanding of municipal planning, development services, housing programs and economic development.
Strategic, forward-thinking, hands-on leader who can manage growth and balance development opportunities with the City’s character, quality of life, and priorities.
Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and moving projects from concept through completion.

Responsibilities

Directs and coordinates Development Services Department activities including planning, building and code enforcement.
Monitors the General Plan for compliance and administers the CDBG and Housing Program.
Collaborates with the City Manager, City Council and other departments to ensure timely project delivery.
Oversees department budget planning and resource allocation.
