Job summary

Shepherd’s House Ministries is seeking a mission-driven Director of Development to expand fundraising across sites and advance its life-changing work. You will lead strategy, donor relations, major gifts, grants, partnerships, events, and stewardship, reporting to the CEO and collaborating with the Board.

The role requires a strong track record in nonprofit fundraising and leadership within a faith-based context.

Qualifications

We are seeking a passionate and mission-driven Director of Development to help expand the impact of Shepherd’s House Ministries across all sites and advance this life-changing work.

The Director of Development provides strategic leadership and oversight of Shepherd’s House Ministries’ fundraising and resource development efforts, including individual giving, major gifts, grants, partnerships, campaigns, events, and donor stewardship. Working closely with the CEO, leadership team, Board, and Development team, this position strengthens donor relationships, expands funding opportunities, and represents the mission and values of Shepherd’s House Ministries in the community.

  • Collaborate in partnership with leadership, advisors and coworkers to contribute to and carry out the Development team’s strategy and goals.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive development strategy aligned with Shepherd’s House Ministries’ mission, strategic priorities, and financial goals.
  • Establish and achieve annual fundraising goals across individual giving, major gifts, grants, corporate partnerships, campaigns, and other revenue sources.
  • Build and steward meaningful, Christ-centered relationships with current and prospective donors, inviting individuals and organizations to prayerfully partner with Shepherd’s House Ministries through their generosity and support of its mission.
  • Expand funding opportunities by developing relationships with foundations, corporations, churches, businesses, and community partners.
  • Lead fundraising campaigns, events, and communications that effectively communicate the organization’s mission, impact, and funding needs.
  • Lead, supervise, and develop the Development Team, establishing clear expectations, accountability, and a collaborative, results-driven culture.
  • Monitor and report on development performance, including fundraising activity, donor trends, revenue projections, budgets, and key performance metrics.
  • Collaborate with organizational leadership, the Board, Finance, Communications, and Program teams to identify funding priorities and strengthen organizational impact.
  • Serve as a visible ambassador for Shepherd’s House Ministries, representing the organization with professionalism, integrity, compassion, humility, and alignment with its Christian mission.

Position-Specific Standards:

  • Compliance with SHM’s Employee Handbook and organizational policies.
  • Attends all -staff meetings and trainings

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in fundraising, development, nonprofit management, marketing, communications, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing successful fundraising strategies, including major gifts, grants, corporate partnerships, or campaigns.
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate and steward meaningful relationships with individuals and organizations, inviting them to prayerfully partner with Shepherd’s House Ministries in advancing its mission.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience, including managing a Development team and holding staff accountable for measurable results.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate Shepherd’s House mission in a variety of settings.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business, communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field preferred; nonprofit, ministry, social service, or community-based experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with donor management systems and ability to meet organizational requirements, including background checks, valid driver’s license, and occasional evening/weekend availability

  • Work well in a team environment and be able to accept input as well as supervisory guidance.
  • Able and willing to interact with shelter guests in a compassionate and respectful manner.
  • Knowledgeable and empathetic to the needs of the poor and suffering.
  • Able to maintain a positive, professional, Christ-like manner with all donors, staff, guests, and volunteers.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Primarily work in an office environment with regular presence at Shepherd’s House shelters, program locations, and community settings.
  • Regularly interact with donors, staff, volunteers, community partners, and shelter guests while maintaining professionalism, compassion, and a Christ-centered approach.
  • Work in active and sometimes unpredictable shelter environments, including situations involving individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, substance use, or other significant life circumstances.
  • Exercise sound judgment and maintain appropriate professional boundaries when navigating challenging or emotionally difficult situations.
  • Travel throughout Central Oregon for donor meetings, community events, organizational activities, and visits to Shepherd’s House locations; occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
  • Ability to perform essential physical duties, including extended periods of sitting, standing, walking, driving, navigating stairs or uneven surfaces, and occasionally lifting or carrying up to 25 pounds.
  • Maintain compliance with safety, security, confidentiality, and professional conduct standards, with the ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and electronically.
