Job summary

Harnham leads a major healthcare data transformation, seeking a visionary Head of Data & Engineering to shape the enterprise data platform and roadmap.

You will guide a ~60-person team across permanent and contractor resources, delivering scalable data platforms, pipelines, and AI-ready data products while ensuring reliability and cost efficiency.

Qualifications

• Proven leadership of enterprise data engineering and platform teams.
• Deep Snowflake experience in a large-scale production environment.
• Expertise across cloud data platforms, ELT, streaming, and APIs.
• Experience leading large engineering teams with blended permanent/contract resources.
• Experience building scalable data platforms enabling AI/GenAI initiatives.
• Strong governance, metadata, lineage and operational excellence.
• Excellent stakeholder management and influence at senior level.
• Healthcare/regulated industry experience is advantageous.

This is a high-impact leadership opportunity to shape the future of enterprise data within a large-scale, mission-driven healthcare organisation. You'll lead a sizeable data & engineering function and play a pivotal role in transforming how data powers AI, digital experiences, and business decision-making across the enterprise.

With millions of customer interactions, complex operational ecosystems, and substantial investment in AI and digital transformation, data sits at the heart of their long-term strategy. Leadership is focused on moving beyond traditional reporting towards real-time, AI-enabled data products and conversational experiences.

The Role

• Define and execute the enterprise data platform strategy and roadmap
• Lead a team of approximately 60 data professionals across a blended permanent and contractor workforce
• Own the delivery of scalable data platforms, pipelines, APIs, streaming capabilities, and real-time integrations
• Drive platform reliability, performance, observability, data quality, and cost optimisation
• Partner with Data Science, AI Engineering, Governance, and Product teams to deliver AI-ready data products
• Lead the shift from traditional dashboard-driven analytics to AI-powered, conversational data consumption
• Establish standards for data modelling, metadata, lineage, governance, and platform operations
• Influence enterprise-wide modernisation initiatives with strong executive visibility

Your Skills & Experience

• Strong leadership experience within enterprise data engineering and platform organisations
• Deep, hands-on experience with Snowflake in a large-scale production environment
• Expertise across cloud data platforms, ELT frameworks, data operations, streaming, and APIs
• Proven success leading large engineering teams and managing blended permanent and contract resources
• Experience building modern, scalable data platforms that support AI, machine learning, or GenAI initiatives
• Strong understanding of data governance, quality, metadata, lineage, and operational excellence
• Excellent stakeholder management and the ability to influence senior leadership
• Experience within healthcare, financial services, retail, or another regulated industry is advantageous
