JOB DESCRIPTION
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 1. Master's degree or higher from an accredited university.
  • 2. Valid Alabama certificate with career technical administration endorsement.
  • 3. Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
  • 4. Minimum of five (5) years successful teaching and career technical school administrative experience.
  • 5. Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • 6. Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
  • 7. Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups.
  • 8. Demonstrated ability to lead, manage and support strategic and operation goals of the system in areas or responsibility.
  • 9. Ability to supervise and evaluate designated personnel, manage budgets, and develop curriculum and programming specific to the needs of students.
  • 10. Ability to identify and solve problems as a productive team member.
  • 11. Ability to use technology to communicate, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information.
  • 12. Physical mobility and visual acuity to visit schools and classrooms for the improvement of programs.
  • 13. Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
  • 14. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to prepare written communications. Skills and abilities to work with the general public, news media, students, parents, school administrators, and county staff. Strong interpersonal skills. Knowledge of and experience with advanced network design, network principles, protocols, and infrastructure. Proficiency with technology, communication systems, web-based services, student information systems, databases, distance learning, interactive instructional technologies, office and student applications and devices. Ability to lead the review, evaluation, and implementation of instructional software, hardware, and technology tools.

Job Goal:

To provide leadership, direction, management, and evaluation of the career technical program for the school system. To ensure high quality career technical education programs and improved student achievement throughout the school system.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • 1. Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities.
  • 2. Formulates and administers a comprehensive, modern program of career technical education.
  • 3. Maintains close working relationships with community and state agencies and area businesses, industries, and labor organizations, in order to provide training consistent with needs, and establishes lay advisory committees as needed.
  • 4. Continuously appraises and evaluates the total career technical program to achieve established goals of providing the opportunity for people to prepare for gainful employment.
  • 5. Maintains current knowledge of all pertinent rules and regulations affecting career technical education and business industry certification for career technical programs.
  • 6. Advises and assists in obtaining state and federal funds for career technical and technical education programs.
  • 7. Assumes responsibility for the collection, review, and submission of all forms and reports relative to career technical education to state agencies.
  • 8. Coordinates the gathering, selecting, and analysis of data with respect to jobs available to local high school graduates.
  • 9. Works to identify and define local job opportunities and the role of the schools in meeting these opportunities.
  • 10. Coordinates all work-experience and cooperative education programs in the schools.
  • 11. Arranges and directs in-service education and professional development programs for the staff.
  • 12. Interprets the career technical education program to the public.
  • 13. Coordinates with post-secondary institution(s) to provide dual enrollment opportunities in the area of career technical education.
  • 14. Prepares and administers the departmental budget.
  • 15. Makes recommendations for long-term adjustments, changes, additions, and deletions in the career technical education program to meet changing job trends and needs.
  • 16. Assists in the recruitment and screening of career technical teachers.
  • 17. Supervises and evaluates staff assigned in accordance with school system procedures and schedules.
  • 18. Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
  • 19. Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
  • 20. Works cooperatively and productively with the Superintendent and other administrative staff to ensure the system’s vision, goals and strategies are implemented and providing all pertinent data to all appropriate personnel within the designated time frame.
  • 21. Engages in professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics and effective leadership.
  • 22. Reports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel.
  • 23. Attends conferences and training sessions to improve skills and programs.
  • 24. Responds to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns and/or complaints in a timely and positive manner.
  • 25. Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
  • 26. Properly uses and cares for equipment and material resources of the school system and effectively supervises and monitors others in the care, maintenance, and use of tools, equipment, and inventory.
  • 27. Uses effective collaboration skills to work as an effective team member.
  • 28. Serves as needed on committees, representative bodies, task forces, and/or as delegate for the system.
  • 29. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations.
  • 30. Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.
  • 31. Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to lift up to 20 pounds; agility and dexterity needed to stoop, bend, lift/move equipment (computers and/or peripherals, etc.) when necessary.
