Job summary

EMJ is seeking a Director of Construction in Chattanooga to lead project oversight, manage budgets and schedules, and guide project teams through complex builds. You will work with project managers, superintendents, and engineers to ensure client satisfaction and on-time delivery.

Responsibilities include coordinating meetings, reviewing cost reports, and developing staff while maintaining compliance with safety policies. Travel up to 40% is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field.
• 10–15 years of commercial construction experience, including field experience.
• OSHA 10-Hour certification.
• SWPPP Training completed.
• Ability to obtain and maintain state contractor licenses.
• Strong knowledge of construction codes and industry best practices.
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Strong project scheduling and planning abilities.
• Effective conflict resolution and leadership skills.
• Willingness to travel up to 40%.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily oversight and guidance to Project Managers and Superintendents to ensure schedules and budgets are met.
• Review and approve correspondence, requisitions, change requests, and project schedules.
• Perform routine site visits and review preconstruction schedules.
• Maintain project status with VP of Construction and review cost reports with PMs.
• Attend key meetings (BIC, Owner/Architect, Preconstruction) as needed.
• Lead weekly Project Manager meetings and coordinate project teams.
• Coach, mentor, and develop project staff; handle staffing decisions.
• Promote EMJ programs internally and externally to ensure understanding and support.
