Job summary

Augusta University is seeking an Assistant Professor of English specializing in composition studies to lead the College Composition program and serve as Director, beginning August 2027. The role includes curriculum development, assessment, and mentoring faculty in first-year writing.

The successful candidate will teach across the undergraduate curriculum, including freshman composition, and contribute to the Professional Writing and Rhetoric track.

Qualifications

• PhD in English with a focus on composition studies, rhetoric, or related field.
• At least one year of experience with writing program administration.
• Demonstrated success teaching diverse student populations.
• Experience teaching online at the university level.
• Evidence of an emerging research agenda in composition/writing studies.
• Terminal degree or nearing completion; equivalent training.
• USG faculty employment requirements and professional conduct.
• Desirable: ability as teacher and scholar across duties.

Responsibilities

• Administer the College Composition program including curriculum, policy, and assessment.
• Mentor English faculty in teaching first-year writing and develop teaching resources.
• Deliver teaching for freshman to upper-level courses; 3/2 load with administrative 20% load.
• Maintain office hours, advise, grade, and follow campus policies.
• Create and update syllabi and course outlines per policies.
• Maintain an ambitious scholarly agenda in writing program administration.
• Promote student success and guide learners toward academic and career goals.
• Engage in shared governance and collaborate with campus partners.
• Promote a customer-friendly environment for students, faculty, and staff.
