Job summary

Galen College of Nursing in Georgia seeks a Director of Clinical Learning to oversee clinical experiences across nursing programs. You will negotiate, arrange, and evaluate campus-level clinical experiences and support faculty in aligning practice with curriculum outcomes.

You will lead faculty placement, ensure qualified teaching staff are prepared, monitor performance, and collaborate with campus leadership to maintain compliant, high-quality clinical experiences that support student success

Qualifications

  • MSN with nursing background and knowledge of clinical education objectives.
  • Unencumbered Licensure: RN in applicable state.
  • Three years of clinical education experience.
  • Academic leadership experience preferred.
  • Academic nursing certification preferred.
  • Demonstrates core nurse leader competencies: professionalism, communication & relationship management, healthcare environment knowledge, business skills, and leadership.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret learning needs of students and align with clinical placement agencies.
  • Minimal supervision expected.

Responsibilities

  • Disseminate evaluation findings to inform improvements in student and program outcomes.
  • Lead, attend, and support relevant committee meetings.
  • Oversee faculty placement and orientation with campus leadership.
  • Ensure faculty are academically and experientially prepared for teaching content.
  • Interview and hire faculty and staff per college standards.
  • Oversee performance evaluations for faculty and clinical staff and support Rank/Promotion processes.
  • Coordinate with CLM/DCL structures for reporting and alignment.
  • Collaborate with campus leadership on communication across theory, labs, simulation, and clinical faculty.
  • Orient students and faculty to clinical agency sites and ensure compliance with agency requirements.
  • Apply student policies and procedures consistently in collaboration with program administrators.
  • Maintain high-quality, diverse clinical experiences aligned with outcomes, accreditation, and regulations.
  • Oversee clinical schedule development and changes.
  • Communicate with clinical agencies to foster relationships and strategic planning.

Position Overview:

As a Director of Clinical Learning at Galen College of Nursing, you will operationalize standard clinical experiences and lead the negotiation, arrangement, and campus-level evaluation of all clinical experiences across nursing programs. Support faculty in facilitating the standardized curriculum and instructional model, ensuring experiences align with curriculum outcomes and uphold the Galen College of Nursing mission and values. This role operates in a matrix structure, reporting directly to the Dean while maintaining a dotted-line relationship with the Clinical Performance and Experience team to ensure alignment on Galen strategy.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Ensures that clinical experience evaluation findings are disseminated and used to inform decision-making for the maintenance and improvement of the student learning outcomes, program outcomes, and the overall student clinical experience.
  2. Leads, attends, and supports relevant committee meetings.
  3. Provide strategic oversight of assigned faculty placement and orientation in collaboration with campus leadership and the Clinical Faculty Support Specialist.
  4. Ensures that assigned faculty are academically and experientially prepared for the content in which they teach, maintain expertise in their areas of responsibility, and that their performance reflects scholarship and evidence-based teaching and clinical practices.
  5. Interviews and hires faculty and staff in congruence with college standards and in collaboration with the program administrator or designee.
  6. Oversees assigned faculty (full-time and adjunct) and clinical education staff 90-day and annual performance evaluations and develops a plan with the faculty when areas for improvement are identified. Actively support faculty in the Rank and Promotion Process.
  7. When applicable, full-time clinical faculty will report to the DCL, while adjunct clinical faculty will report to the CLM role. In the absence of a CLM, adjunct faculty will report to the DCL.
  8. Collaborates with campus leadership and administrative staff for communication processes between theory, clinical learning laboratory, simulation, and assigned clinical faculty.
  9. Ensures that all students and faculty are oriented to the clinical agency site.
  10. Ensures that all students and faculty are compliant with clinical agency requirements.
  11. In collaboration with the program administrator or designee, ensures the appropriate application of student policies and the correct implementation of related procedures by faculty.
  12. Ensures high-quality, rigorous, diverse clinical experiences that support the student learning outcomes in all nursing programs by overseeing the availability and regular evaluation of appropriate clinical experiences aligned with student learning outcomes, accreditation, regulatory state board of nursing guidelines, and institutional policy and procedure.
  13. Oversees the placement of clinical experiences that support course student learning outcomes and college, regional, and campus policy and procedure.
  14. Supports faculty adherence to standardized curriculum, assessment and evaluation practices and instructional model.
  15. Supports faculty engagement in the curriculum review and revision process.
  16. Executes and maintains clinical affiliation agreements to ensure that records are current and comply with regulatory standards for clinical experiences in collaboration with the Compliance department.
  17. Collaborate with campus leadership to establish clinical education financial needs.
  18. Collaborates with the 504/Title IX Accommodations team to identify and implement resources required to provide approved services.
  19. Escalates concerns to the campus dean and Clinical Performance and Experience Team.
  20. Collaborates with leadership to create and maintain an environment conducive to teaching and learning, scholarship, and service, including oversight of faculty clinical course assignments, clinical scheduling, and workload.
  21. Identifies, negotiates, establishes, maintains, and evaluates clinical agency partnerships and satisfaction to ensure that a variety of clinical experiences are available for student learning and application of clinical practice.
  22. Participates in review and approval of the clinical schedule and any subsequent clinical schedule changes.
  23. Communicate with all clinical agencies to promote relationship development, strategic planning, and conflict management.
Position Requirements:
  • Minimum qualification of an MSN with nursing background and knowledge that includes an understanding of the educational objectives and experiences of student nurses, an understanding of the clinical practice of nursing, knowledge of the diverse organizational environments in which nurses practice, and knowledge of the types of clinical sites needed to meet course content and objectives.
  • Unencumbered Licensure: Applicable State as a Registered Nurse.
  • Three (3) years of clinical education experience.
  • Academic leadership experience preferred.
  • Academic nursing certification preferred.
  • Demonstrates core nurse leader competencies including professionalism, communication and relationship management, knowledge of health care environment, business skills and principles, and leadership.
  • Excellent organizational and problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret learning experience needs of students and match them to the capabilities of clinical placement agencies.
  • Degree of Supervision: Minimal.
