Job summary

Precision Tune Auto Care seeks a Director of Automotive Technical Training & Development to lead the design and delivery of advanced training programs for technicians across our service centers. Qualifications

• Deep professional experience in automotive repair, service, diagnostics, or automotive technical development.
• Master Technician‑level knowledge and hands‑on automotive experience required.
• Expert‑level understanding of internal combustion engines and automotive diagnostic systems.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, electronic, and computer‑controlled vehicle systems.
• Demonstrated ability to diagnose complex automotive problems and explain the diagnostic process to others.
• Proven ability to teach, coach, and develop automotive technicians in classroom and hands‑on environments.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a subject‑matter expert in automotive repair, diagnostics, service procedures, and technical training.
• Develop and personally deliver classroom, virtual, and hands‑on technical training for automotive technicians.
• Create practical training focused on diagnostics, troubleshooting, repair procedures, and technical competency—not simply parts replacement.
• Provide advanced instruction on internal combustion engines, including engine operation, fuel, ignition, emissions, cooling, lubrication, induction, and exhaust systems.
• Develop training related to electrical, electronic, computerized, and diagnostic systems.
• Incorporate hybrid and EV technology, high‑voltage safety, battery systems, and EV diagnostics into training as appropriate.
• Assess technician capabilities, identify skill gaps, and establish technical competency standards.
• Develop technical curriculum, training materials, assessments, demonstrations, and job aids.
• Visit service centers to evaluate technician proficiency, provide technical coaching, and measure training effectiveness.
• Stay current on automotive technology, diagnostic equipment, repair procedures, and industry standards.
• Lead the company's broader Learning & Development strategy in partnership with HR, Operations, field leadership, and executive leadership.
• Partner with franchisees and Operations to identify technical and operational training needs.
• Develop training programs for franchise leadership, managers, and field personnel, including safety, compliance, and operational requirements.
• Establish metrics to measure training effectiveness, technician proficiency, business impact, and ROI.
• Support new systems, processes, and operational initiatives through targeted training.
• Manage training resources, budgets, and external vendors as applicable.

Position Summary

Precision Tune Auto Care is seeking a Director of Automotive Technical Training & Development with deep, hands‑on automotive technical expertise to lead technical training and technician development programs across our service center network. This role is designed for an experienced automotive professional who combines extensive technical knowledge with a passion for teaching and developing others. Ideal backgrounds may include Master Automotive Technician, automotive instructor, technical trainer, automotive manufacturer/OEM or R&D professional, dealership technical leader, or a similar automotive technical role. The successful candidate must have advanced knowledge of internal combustion engines, automotive diagnostics, mechanical and electrical systems, and modern vehicle technology, along with the ability to teach, coach, and develop technicians. Experience with hybrid and electric vehicles (EVs) is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

Automotive Technical Training & Development

Required Qualifications

Automotive Expertise

• Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, electronic, and computer‑controlled vehicle systems.
• Demonstrated ability to diagnose complex automotive problems and explain the diagnostic process to others.
• Proven ability to teach, coach, and develop automotive technicians in classroom and hands‑on environments.
• Experience with an automotive manufacturer/OEM, R&D organization, dealership, technical school, aftermarket service organization, or similar environment is a strong plus.
• Hybrid and EV experience is highly desirable.

Training & Leadership Experience

• 5+ years of experience in technical training, automotive education, Learning & Development, or a related field.
• Strong curriculum development, facilitation, presentation, and coaching skills.
• Experience delivering classroom, hands‑on, virtual, and/or LMS‑based training.
• Strong communication, project management, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work effectively with executives, Operations, HR, franchisees, field leaders, and technicians.
• Willingness and ability to travel extensively to service centers and training locations.

Education & Certifications

• ASE Master Technician certification strongly preferred.
• Automotive technology degree, technical education, vocational training, or equivalent professional experience preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Learning & Development, Business, Human Resources, or a related field preferred; significant automotive technical and training experience may substitute for formal education.
• Automotive manufacturer training or advanced automotive certifications are a plus.

Physical Demands / Work Environment
