Job summary

Wilks Brothers, LLC is seeking a Director of Accounting to lead day-to-day accounting operations for the holding company and its portfolio of operating companies from our on-site facility in Cisco, TX. The role reports to the VP of Accounting and Finance and drives process standardization and continuous improvement across the function.

The ideal candidate has a CPA (preferred), 8+ years of accounting experience, including multi-entity management, and strong knowledge of GAAP.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting required.
  • CPA preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience with at least 3 years in a leadership role.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day accounting operations for the holding company and subsidiary entities.
  • Oversee general ledger activities and ensure transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with company policies.
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely completion of all accounting activities.
  • Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
  • Oversee fixed asset accounting, accruals, prepaid expenses, and other balance sheet account activities.
  • Ensure the completeness and accuracy of accounting records across all legal entities.
  • Coordinate requests and documentation related to internal and external audits.
  • Lead accounting process improvement initiatives and automation efforts.

Position Summary

The Director of Accounting is responsible for leading the day-to-day accounting operations for the holding company and its portfolio of operating companies. This role oversees the monthly close process, general ledger activities, account reconciliations, transaction processing, accounting compliance, and execution of accounting policies and procedures. Reporting to the Vice President of Accounting and Finance, the Director of Accounting leads a team of accounting professionals and drives operational excellence, process standardization, and continuous improvement across the accounting function.

  • Accounting Operations
  • Lead the day-to-day accounting operations for the holding company and subsidiary entities.
  • Oversee general ledger activities and ensure transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with company policies.
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely completion of all accounting activities.
  • Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
  • Oversee fixed asset accounting, accruals, prepaid expenses, and other balance sheet account activities.
  • Ensure the completeness and accuracy of accounting records across all legal entities.
  • Accounting Governance & Compliance
  • Implement and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and controls established by the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting standards.
  • Monitor accounting processes to identify risks, control deficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintain documentation supporting accounting positions and operational accounting procedures.
  • Research and apply accounting guidance for routine and moderately complex transactions.
  • Multi-Entity Accounting Oversight
  • Ensure consistency in accounting practices and procedures across operating companies.
  • Review subsidiary accounting activities to ensure compliance with established policies and standards.
  • Partner with operational leaders and local accounting staff to resolve accounting issues and improve processes.
  • Support accounting integration activities related to newly acquired entities.
  • Audit & Accounting Support
  • Coordinate requests and documentation related to internal and external audits.
  • Oversee preparation of audit support schedules and account analyses.
  • Ensure timely resolution of accounting-related audit findings and recommendations.
  • Maintain organized accounting records and documentation to support audit and compliance requirements.
  • Systems & Process Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve operational efficiency.
  • Lead accounting process improvement initiatives and automation efforts.
  • Support ERP enhancements, system implementations, and workflow optimization projects.
  • Establish best practices and standardized procedures across accounting functions and operating entities.
  • Develop metrics and reporting tools to monitor accounting department effectiveness and workload management.
Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
  • CPA preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience managing accounting operations within a multi-entity organization required.
  • Experience in a holding company, conglomerate, private equity-backed, or multi-subsidiary environment preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and accounting operations.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as WolfePak, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar platforms.
  • Demonstrated success leading and developing accounting teams.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Working Conditions
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
  • Positions self to install equipment, including under desks.
