This position is responsible to provide direction and supervision to Managers, Nurse Administrators and other specialty roles. The Director of Nursing collaborates with the CNO to ensure one standard of care and practice for professional nursing throughout the organization.**Responsibilities And Duties:**25% Operations/ Personnel Management: Assumes 24 hour accountability for ongoing delivery of patient care for a division or service line, consisting of multiple nursing/patient care units/areas; maintains a broad awareness of daily operations to guide patient care delivery; Participates in strategic planning, service line growth and practice innovator Provides leadership and guidance to managerial and support staff in daily operations of patient care areas. Assists managerial and support staff in identifying and resolving ethical and interdepartmental issues. Participates in process improvement activities and root cause analysis investigations. Provides guidance to managers with performance related issues. Provides leadership in the determination of clinical, scholarly, and administrative nursing goals and directions, as well as the associated functions and processes necessary to achieve those goals. Participates in development and implementation of hospital plan for provision of patient care by monitoring and recommending productivity levels for care provided by nursing personnel. Participates in acquiring, allocating and evaluating human, material and financial resources for specific functions and processes. Responsible for development of and administration of annual capital and operating budgets within scope of responsibility; monitors performance by reviewing variances and takes corrective action to meet expected performance levels. Collaborates with other departments to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of all patient care activities. Establishes and maintains systems of clinical and administrative records and reports to meet standards of regulatory and licensing agencies and to provide information base for effective administrative action. Strives to provide workforce reflecting population diversity. Ensures delivery of culturally-competent care and ensures safe and healthy, safe working environment. 25% Leadership: Participates in development, implementation and evaluation of organizational policies, procedures and programs at executive level. Actively participates in organizational committees and decision making. Provides leadership in assurance of professional nursing practice environment in which registered nurses are autonomous, govern their practice, and are accountable to provide effective, efficient, safe, and compassionate quality care. Collaborates with other professional disciplines to achieve organizational health care goals. Actively participates in interdepartmental relationship building. Responsible for identifying methods to achieve and monitor compliance with requirements of regulatory agencies. Responsible for the overall management of nursing practice, nursing education and professional development, and nursing research for an individual service line. 20% Patient C Implements effective and ongoing program to measure, assess, and improve quality and appropriateness of nursing care delivered to patients; Ensures innovation and on-going evaluation of services provided by the department. Supports and facilitates outcome measurement and evidenced-based practice. Uses data from various sources to initiate quality and process improvement within department. Participates in development, implementation and evaluation of: standards of nursing care and practice, nursing policies and procedures, nursing job descriptions, initial competency assessments, annual competency assessments, and nursing documentation systems. Evaluates factors related to safety, outcomes, effectiveness, cost and social impact of patient care services within scope of responsibility. 15% Evidence-Based Practice: Provides support for conduct, dissemination, integration and utilization of research to ensure evidence-based nursing practice, healthcare and management systems. Advocates for resources to support research. Facilitates dissemination of research findings and integration of evidence-based guidelines and practices within the health-care setting. Identifies areas of clinical and administrative inquiry suitable for nurse researchers. Identifies key measures for the departments success, based on the organization goals and objectives. Monitors progress and develops actions to attain goals. Communicates goals to staff and to others in the organization. 15% Professional Development Develops and maintains professional competencies by attending educational and leadership programs and participating in professional and community organizations. Seeks opportunities for publication, presentation and professional leadership in professional and community societies. Promotes environment for learning within the department; encourages and facilitates staff and management attendance and internal and external educational activities. Serves as link between nursing staff and other health care disciplines, both within and outside of organized nursing services.
