Position Summary

The Director, New Business Development (M&A) plays a critical role in shaping and executing inorganic growth initiatives for BD’s Peripheral Interventions (PI) business unit. This role is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and advancing acquisitions, licensing transactions, and strategic investments that support PI’s long-term growth priorities across its Vascular (Peripheral Vascular Disease, End-Stage Kidney Disease) and Oncology (Biopsy, Women’s Health, Drainage, Ports, and Interventional Oncology) platforms. This is a business-unit-embedded role that works in close partnership with the PI Strategy team, platform leaders, and cross‑functional stakeholders. The Director owns the PI execution of external growth opportunities from early opportunity identification through diligence, governance approval, and integration planning. The role requires strong strategic judgment, analytical rigor, and executive‑level communication skills to support high‑stakes decision‑making in complex and evolving markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and maintain an active New Business Development pipeline, spanning acquisitions, licensing opportunities, minority investments, and other strategic transaction structures.

  • Identify, prioritize, and evaluate external growth opportunities aligned with PI’s strategy, portfolio gaps, and category leadership objectives.

  • Lead end‑to‑end evaluation of transactions, including market assessment, investment thesis development, and financial modeling.

  • Partner closely with the PI Strategy and platform marketing teams to ensure external opportunities are tightly aligned to strategic priorities, platform roadmaps, and adjacencies.

  • Conduct market, competitive, and technology landscapes to assess standard of care, adoption dynamics, unmet needs, and competitive positioning.

  • Build robust business cases, including market sizing, revenue forecasting, scenario analysis, and risk assessment.

  • Lead cross‑functional diligence efforts in collaboration with Marketing, Sales, Finance, Legal, R&D, Medical Affairs, Regulatory, Quality, and Operations teams.

  • Prepare clear, executive‑ready materials and present opportunities to senior leadership and governance forums.

  • Represent the Peripheral Interventions business unit in initial discussions with potential acquisition, licensing, or investment targets.

  • Support deal structuring and negotiation strategy in close partnership with Corporate Development, Finance, and Legal.

  • Lead integration planning activities for transactions entering execution, ensuring readiness and effective handoff to operating and integration teams.

  • Support Annual Strategic Review (ASR) and New Product Development (NPD) review processes related to the external innovation pipeline.

  • Collaborate with Corporate Development and other Business Units to share best practices and support enterprise‑wide assessments, as appropriate.

  • Operate initially as an individual contributor, with the opportunity to grow into a people leadership role as business needs and team structure evolve.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, Life Sciences, or a related field required; MBA or other advanced degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience, including roles across business development, strategy, marketing, finance, or product development; 2-3 years of management consulting experience preferred.

  • Healthcare industry experience required; medical device experience strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience leading complex, cross‑functional initiatives and influencing decisions without direct authority.

  • Strong analytical capability, including market modeling, financial analysis, forecasting, and scenario planning.

  • Ability to evaluate new technologies, clinical approaches, and business models and assess alignment with platform and portfolio needs.

  • Proven ability to synthesize complex information into clear, actionable recommendations for senior leadership.
