Job summary

CHRISTUS Health in Corpus Christi, TX, seeks a Director of Mission Services to lead design, development, implementation and evaluation of Mission-related programs. The role ensures Catholic identity, ethics and spiritual care are integrated across the organization.

The ideal candidate holds a Master’s degree in theology or related field, is a practicing Catholic, and has proven planning, management and collaboration experience within Catholic healthcare.

• Articulates and champions CHRISTUS Health missions, values and ethics.
• Assists in designing orientation programs to integrate Mission and values organization-wide.
• Ensures ongoing Mission-related education for physicians, staff and volunteers.

• Collaborates on outreach activities and implementation to meet Mission goals.
• Advises policies to align with Mission and Catholic teachings.
• Works with Spiritual Care, CPE, Community Benefit and other departments on leadership development and engagement.
• Fosters a culture of Christian community within the organization.
• Maintains regional Mission integration accountability and reporting.
• Represents the organization at functions and with local Church bodies.

Job description

Summary:

The Director of Mission Services provides leadership in the design, development, implementation and evaluation of programs and activities related to Mission, core values, ethics, Catholic identity, and spiritual care to ensure that the Mission of CHRISTUS Health and its sponsoring Congregations is communicated effectively and integrated into all aspects of the organization.

Responsibilities:

• Articulates and demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to the Mission, values, and heritage of the sponsoring Congregations and of CHRISTUS Health.
• Assists in the design and implementation of orientation programs for board, management, physicians, staff and volunteers to assist in the integration of Mission and values into all aspects of the organization.
• Ensures continuing education on Mission, values, and ethics for physicians, staff and volunteers.
• Assists in coordinating resources to address needs of the poor as identified within the community needs assessment and participates in the evaluation of the social accountability process.
• Collaborates in the identification of opportunities for outreach ministry and other means for meeting the Mission and social accountability expectations of the organization, and actively participates in their implementation.
• Advises on policies, procedures and organizational philosophy and ethics to ensure congruence with the Mission and values of CHRISTUS Health and the teachings of the Catholic Church.
• Works collaboratively with other departments including Spiritual Care, Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE), Community Benefit, Palliative Care, Volunteer Services, Human Resources, Marketing & Public Relations, Advocacy and Ethics in conducting leadership development and spirituality programs, developing patient and associate engagement plans, coordinating formation programs and advising on public relations and advocacy endeavors.
• Fosters an organizational culture that enhances a sense of Christian community within the organization.
• Fosters communication, networking and shared learning among local and System Mission leaders.
• Assists in the implementation of System accountability mechanisms concerning the ongoing status of Mission integration.
• Serves as a resource in Mission, spirituality, spiritual care, ethics and community benefit within the organization.
• Assists in reporting to and educating the regional Board on Mission, ethics and community benefit.
• Attends functions and represents the sponsoring Congregations and the organization as appropriate.
• Serves as a liaison with the local Church at the parish and diocesan levels.
• Supports CHRISTUS Health and the region by assuming any other responsibilities mutually agreed upon to ensure the effective functioning of the CHRISTUS health ministry as directed by the VP of Mission Integration.

Requirements:

Education/Skills

• A Master’s degree in theology, scripture, spirituality, ethics or the equivalent.

Experience

• Understands and is committed to Catholic healthcare.
• Proven experience in planning, management and implementation skills.
• A practicing Catholic with experience in Catholic healthcare.
• Knowledge of the history and heritage of the sponsoring Congregations, understanding of the Catholic Church and its teachings, and of the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work as a team member
• Poise and clarity in group presentations.
