Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque seeks a senior leader to head the Materials, Physical and Chemical Sciences Center. You will guide foundational and applied research in materials science, partnering across Sandia's programs to deliver strategic capabilities in aging, reliability, and advanced manufacturing.

The Director will set R&D priorities, build cross-functional teams, and drive AI-enabled modeling, quantum materials, and power electronics initiatives while engaging with sponsors

Qualifications

PhD in engineering or science with relevant center leadership experience.
Minimum 10–15 years of post-degree senior R&D leadership in a large lab or similar setting.
Track record of managing complex scientific or engineering programs with multiple sponsors.

Responsibilities

Lead the Materials, Physical & Chemical Sciences Center, including direct reports and cross-group coordination.
Set strategy, oversee R&D programs, and ensure safe, compliant operations.
Drive AI-enabled modeling, advanced materials, and manufacturing initiatives.
Foster external partnerships with DOE, national labs, industry and universities.
