Nationwide is seeking a Director of Learning Excellence to lead enterprise learning strategy, governance and AI-enabled design across a Fortune 100 environment. You will drive learning standards, metrics, and cross-functional collaboration to elevate associate development.
The role partners with TM leaders, HR, and vendors to deploy large-scale digital learning hubs, measure impact, and deliver impactful executive storytelling.

Reports to Associate Vice President, Associate Development Experience. Manages a team of four-to-five digital learning experience designers and may supervise vendors, consultants and other third parties.
An undergraduate degree in business, learning and development, management, business, human resources, organization development or related subject is preferred. Graduate studies in related field is a plus.
Ten or more years of demonstrated experience in human resources, business consulting, organizational development and/or learning and development, including at least five years of proven experience in leading teams in a large, complex environment. Experience partnering with other learning and human resources leaders to formulate and execute a coordinated strategy through a matrixed structure. At least three years of demonstrated experience in learning analysis, solution design and development. Experience in multiple learning solution techniques and methodologies. Large program initiation and management experience. Corporate centers of excellence and/or shared services experience, as well as experience in a Fortune 100 company, is preferred. Experience interacting with and influencing executives and peers to achieve desired outcomes. Experience designing, deploying, and governing AI-enabled and automated learning solutions—including generative AI authoring, agentic workflows, and Power Platform tools—in a large, complex enterprise environment. Demonstrated experience leading enterprise required learning programs with regulatory, compliance, and multi-country deployment complexity. Experience founding or sustaining professional learning communities and governance structures across matrixed organizations. Background in human-centered experience design, including user research, persona development, journey mapping, and iterative design processes.
Have extensive business, technology, industry and profession awareness. Solid understanding of learning and development methodologies, people management and business/process management concepts. Understanding of modern workplace instructional technology, design techniques and solution development. Ability to identify, select and manage vendors to support any aspect of solution development. Have solid knowledge of learning measurement methodologies and their appropriate use. Performance consulting, learning solution design and development and program management. Able to analyze needs and then design and develop learning solutions to meet those needs. Possesses solid verbal and written communication skills in various mediums to interact with all levels of the company in both one-on-one and large audience venues. Able to manage a team responsible for collaborating to identify, prioritize and act upon learning excellence opportunities. Have strong decision-making skills for problem identification and solution recommendation. Possess strong project leadership and management skills. Blend ability to establish strategic vision with solid execution of plans to achieve that vision. Have demonstrated ability to optimize resources efficiently and effectively to respond to varying demands for services. Knowledge of generative AI, agentic AI, and automation platforms as applied to learning design and operations. Ability to translate learning impact data into executive-level narratives, data visualizations, and storytelling that support strategic decision‑making and stakeholder influence. Understanding of global regulatory frameworks affecting learning content requirements including vendor management in that context. Skilled in digital product ownership for learning hubs, knowledge environments, and SharePoint-based communication platforms. Ability to build, sustain, and lead professional learning communities, councils, and communities of practice at the enterprise level. Understanding of modern learning technology ecosystems—including AI-powered platforms, learning management systems (e.g., Workday Learning), and emerging tools—sufficient to evaluate, influence, and govern technology decisions.

Nationwide pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement within the actual starting salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. If a Sales job, Sales Incentives, based on performance goals are possible in addition to this range. Note on Compensation for Part-Time Roles: Please be aware that the salary ranges listed below reflect full-time compensation. Actual compensation may be prorated based on the number of hours worked relative to a full-time schedule.
The national salary range for Director, Learning Excellence : $122,000.00-$214,000.00
The expected starting salary range for Director, Learning Excellence : $122,000.00 - $182,000.00
