Job description

The Director of Laboratories Administration provides executive leadership and scientific oversight for Maryland's nationally-renowned Public Health Laboratories, overseeing a $60 million budget and staff of over 200 across a central laboratory in Baltimore and two regional facilities. The role ensures compliance with federal and state regulations (CLIA, COMAR) and coordinates laboratory services for disease prevention, environmental protection, emergency response, and bioterrorism preparedness across state and federal partners. This is a Management Service position designated as Emergency Essential.

Key qualifications:

• Earned doctoral degree in chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, medical technology, or related field from an accredited institution
• Board certification approved by HHS required at time of application
• Minimum 2 years of laboratory training/experience, including experience directing or supervising high complexity testing
• Minimum 20 CE credit hours in laboratory practice covering director responsibilities
• At least 16 semester hours of doctoral-level coursework in biology, chemistry, medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or medical laboratory science (if doctoral degree not in those fields)
