Provisions Group is looking to bring on a Director, Infrastructure & Cloud Practice to join our IT Professional Services team.

  • This is a 100% remote Full Time opportunity. You’ll be working directly with our clients in a consulting environment.
  • Please note we are not able to partner with third party staffing firms on this role. Candidates must be able to work directly with Provisions Group.
Position Summary

The Director of Infrastructure & Cloud Practice leads a multidisciplinary practice of more than 20 engineers, ensuring the organization has the people, capabilities, processes, and service offerings necessary to deliver consistent client outcomes.

This leader is accountable for coordinating pre-sales solution development, overseeing the quality of statements of work, aligning staffing and skills with business demand, maintaining an efficient work intake process, developing repeatable service offerings, and establishing consistent delivery standards.

The role requires strong technical judgment, particularly in Azure architecture, Microsoft Modern Work and related licensing, DevOps practices, and solution design. This is a leadership and oversight position with limited hands-on implementation.

Must Haves
  • You have led multidisciplinary engineering teams in a consulting or multi-client environment balancing competing client demands, developing technical talent, and staying accountable for delivery.
  • You bring strong technical judgment across infrastructure and cloud, including Azure architecture, Modern Work and licensing, DevOps practices, and infrastructure design. You can challenge assumptions and involve the right experts.
  • You have guided solutions from discovery through delivery handoff, coordinating presales contributors, shaping estimates, and reviewing SOWs to ensure scope, assumptions, risks, and deliverables are clear before work is committed.
  • You can build a consistent practice operating model, improving capacity planning, work intake and prioritization, delivery standards, and repeatable services.
Core Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the right contributors. Partner with sales to identify the disciplines and specialists needed for discovery, solution design, and estimation.
  • Provide solution oversight. Guide technical direction, challenge assumptions, and ensure proposed solutions address client objectives, architectural fit, licensing, operational requirements, and delivery risks.
  • Oversee statement-of-work quality. Establish review and approval processes so SOWs contain clear scope, deliverables, assumptions, exclusions, dependencies, acceptance criteria, and realistic effort estimates.
2. Staffing, Capacity & Skills Management
  • Plan capacity against demand. Provide oversight of capacity and capability planning.
  • Manage practice capabilities. Maintain an actionable view of skills, proficiency, certifications, and subject matter expertise.
  • Lead and develop the organization. Set clear performance expectations and ensure effective coaching, feedback, and career development.
3. Work Intake & Prioritization
  • Own the practice intake process. Define how requests enter the queue, what information is required, who evaluates them, and how they move toward assignment.
  • Create clear prioritization and assignment rules. Coordinate competing demands across sales, projects, and service operations.
  • Maintain queue visibility and accountability. Track ownership, status, aging, blocked requests, and assignment delays.
  • Own the offering roadmap. Identify and prioritize opportunities for assessments, maintenance packages, advisory services, modernization engagements, and other repeatable offerings.
  • Define complete service packages. Ensure each offering has a clear target customer, intended outcome, scope, deliverables, exclusions, delivery approach, required skills, effort model, and pricing inputs.
  • Coordinate development and improvement. Assign subject matter experts to develop technical methods, templates, and delivery assets.
5. Consistent Team Output & Technical Standards
  • Define what good delivery looks like. Establish expectations for solution designs, implementation plans, technical documentation, testing evidence, operational handoffs, and client-facing deliverables.
  • Build quality into the process. Use technical leads and subject matter experts to conduct design reviews, peer reviews, and delivery checkpoints.
  • Address recurring performance issues. Monitor avoidable rework, estimation variance, incomplete deliverables, documentation gaps, and client concerns.
Technical Leadership Profile
  • Azure architecture: Evaluate architectural approaches, guide modernization decisions, and challenge designs for security, reliability, operability, and cost.
  • Modern Work and licensing: Guide solution discussions and ensure proposed capabilities, licensing assumptions, and commercial implications are validated by the appropriate experts.
  • DevOps practices: Establish expectations for automation, version control, deployment discipline, review practices, and repeatable engineering processes.
  • Solution design: Translate business objectives into a coherent solution approach and ensure contributions from multiple disciplines fit together.
Required Experience & Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams in a consulting, professional services, managed services, or comparable multi-client environment.
  • Strong technical judgment in Azure architecture, Modern Work, DevOps practices, and infrastructure solution design.
  • Experience coordinating pre-sales discovery, technical solutioning, estimation, SOW review, and handoffs into delivery.
  • Proven ability to manage capacity, develop technical talent, improve work intake, and establish consistent engineering standards.
  • Experience developing repeatable service offerings, with an understanding of service packaging, delivery effort, resource utilization, and profitability.
  • Strong communication, delegation, and cross-functional leadership skills.

  • Staffing and capabilities support committed work and anticipated demand without persistent overload or critical single-person dependencies.
  • Measures: Capacity forecast accuracy; staffing delays; critical-skill coverage; development-plan progress; workload balance.
Work intake efficiency
  • Requests are visible, sufficiently defined, prioritized, and assigned without unnecessary delay.
  • Measures: Time to triage and assignment; aged or unowned requests; blocked-work duration; adherence to the intake process.
Service offerings
  • Assessments, maintenance packages, and other services are clearly packaged, delivery-ready, and used by sales and delivery teams.
  • Measures: Offerings launched and adopted; repeatability of delivery; offering revenue and margin; client feedback.
  • Teams produce reliable, complete, and professionally presented work across disciplines and engagements.
  • Measures: Quality-review results; avoidable rework; documentation completeness; delivery predictability; client satisfaction.
