Job summary

The Jackson Laboratory (JAX) in New York seeks a Director of Government and Community Relations to manage relationships with federal, state, and local officials and shape policy affecting biomedical research and nonprofit operations.

You will lead advocacy strategies, engage civic organizations, and advance funding opportunities while coordinating strategies across jurisdictions to support research, workforce, and economic initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; Master’s preferred.
• 6+ years in government relations, public affairs, or policy advocacy.
• 6+ years of supervisory experience; 8+ years preferred.
• Knowledge of legislative/regulatory processes for biomedical research and nonprofit ops.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage relationships with federal, state, and local officials to promote JAX's mission.
• Shape legislative and policy agendas at local, state, and national levels.
• Represent JAX to civic orgs, chambers of commerce, trade groups, and community groups in NY.
• Identify opportunities for collaboration to advance programs and objectives.
• Develop government affairs strategies with senior leadership and internal/external stakeholders.
• Lead government affairs representation in New York and coordinate multi-jurisdiction strategies.
• Monitor legislative and policy developments and advise leadership on risks and opportunities.
• Execute advocacy, policy, and stakeholder engagement strategies with external partners.
• Identify and pursue state, local, and federal funding opportunities including appropriations and grants.
• Strengthen JAX presence in NY life sciences and policy networks through partnerships.
