Job description

Use Your Power for Purpose

The Director, GH&B AI-Ready Data Foundation & Governance owns the data foundation that powers Pfizer’s Global Hospital & Biosimilars (GH&B) business. This role is directly accountable for the GH&B AI Ready Data Warehouse (built on Snowflake), establishing the ontologies and relationships that connect GH&B’s commercial, manufacturing, supply and pricing data, and enforcing data governance standards across the business, serving as the single accountable owner of GH&B data quality. The role also ensures the ongoing maintenance, reliability and functionality of GH&B’s production data applications and platforms, including Athena, NEO, the GH&B Navigator dashboard, and the shortage and flu prediction models. Sitting within GH&B, this role owns the data, architecture and design decisions unique to the business, while partnering closely with Pfizer’s GH&B Digital Data Architect and GH&B Digital Product Manager, who supports the broader organization’s data needs and keeps GH&B’s approach aligned with enterprise direction. This is a hands-on, individual contributor role with no people management responsibilities; the role influences through architectural ownership.

What You Will Achieve

Independently, and directing contingent contractor resources:

  • Own the GH&B AI Ready Data Warehouse (Snowflake), accountable for its data model and readiness to support AI and machine learning use cases across the business, and operate the AI and analytics layer built on it
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining ontologies and semantic relationships across GH&B data domains (manufacturing, commercial, supply, pricing) so data is consistently defined, connected, and reusable by people and AI agents alike
  • Owns end-to-end data governance for GH&B, ensures alignment to Pfizer enterprise data standards, access controls, quality rules, and stewardship accountability, and implement automated data quality monitoring and alerting so violations are caught before reaching business users
  • Owns production reliability for GH&B’s data applications and platforms including Athena, NEO, the GH&B Navigator dashboard, the shortage prediction model, and the flu prediction model defining uptime and freshness expectations, and leading incident response and root-cause analysis when issues arise
  • Monitor the quality of the data feeding production AI/ML models, detect drift as underlying data patterns shift, and partner with the Advanced Data Analytics & AI Solutions team, which owns model performance and the retraining/refresh cadence
  • Establish version control and a testing/release process for changes to the warehouse, ontology, dashboards, and models, so updates don’t silently break downstream consumers
  • Administer role-based access to GH&B’s data platforms to protect sensitive commercial and hospital-market data, partnering with Legal/Privacy where hospital-adjacent data raises questions
  • Maintain current technical documentation and runbooks for the warehouse, ontology, and production platforms, reducing key-person risk while the role operates as an individual contributor
  • Partner closely with GH&B Digital and enterprise Digital & Technology to align GH&B’s data architecture, standards, and platform decisions with enterprise direction, while retaining ownership of GH&B-specific design decisions
  • Direct contingent contractor resources building and maintaining GH&B’s AI and analytics models and production applications, flexing capacity with demand
  • Serve as the single accountable owner of GH&B data quality, lineage and trustworthiness across GH&B data products and dashboards used by business decision-makers
  • Partner with GH&B stakeholders to prioritize the data and governance roadmap against business need
  • Evaluate new data and ontology requests, assess feasibility and risk, and route them to the correct build or governance path
Here Is What You Need (Minimum Requirements)
  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 8+ years of experience; OR a Master’s degree with more than 7+ years of experience; OR a Ph.D. with 5+ years of experience.
  • Experience in data architecture, data management, data engineering, or data governance
  • Pharmaceutical, biosimilars, or hospital-market industry experience
  • Demonstrated experience building and operating enterprise data warehouses or AI-ready data platforms (e.g., Snowflake) supporting business-critical reporting and analytics
  • High proficiency in SQL and Python and regular coding in production contexts; comfortable reviewing and correcting code
  • Experience architecting for unstructured data (documents, text, transcripts, images): extraction, chunking, enrichment and metadata strategies for AI consumption, such as contracts and tender documents
  • Hands‑on experience with Collibra for data cataloguing, lineage and data governance workflows
  • Experience establishing data ontologies, taxonomies, or semantic/knowledge‑graph models connecting multiple data domains
  • Experience setting and enforcing data governance standards (quality, access, stewardship) in a matrixed organization
  • Experience directing contingent contractor or vendor engineering resources
  • Applied working knowledge of AI and machine learning concepts, including what “AI-ready” data architecture requires
  • Track record of influencing senior stakeholders and operating effectively without direct authority
  • Experience owning the maintenance and production support of business-critical applications, dashboards, or platforms
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical data concepts for non-technical business stakeholders
Bonus Points If You Have (Preferred Requirements)
  • Advanced degree (MS/MBA) in a relevant field; recognized data management credential (e.g., DAMA CDMP)
  • Hands‑on Snowflake experience, including data modeling, performance tuning, and access/security administration
  • Experience with ontology or knowledge‑graph tooling (e.g., RDF/OWL, Protégé, graph databases), enterprise data catalog/governance tools (e.g., Collibra, Alation, Microsoft Purview), and standing up data functions in a newly formed team or business unit
  • Experience with Pfizer’s Unified Data Hub (UDH) and Finance United Data Hub (FUDH)
  • Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.
NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to travel to Pfizer offices, vendor offices and other team meeting locations when required.

Must be available for regular meetings with EU and US based stakeholders.
