Root Insurance is seeking a Director of Financial Reporting & Accounting Policy to lead GAAP and SEC reporting and policy activities. You will partner across Accounting, Legal, Actuarial, Investments, Treasury, and business leaders to ensure accurate disclosures and strong controls.

The role requires a CPA, a Bachelor's degree in accounting, 10+ years in accounting/financial reporting, and 5 years managing teams. Flexible US-wide location, with headquarters in Columbus, OH.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field; CPA required.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting or financial reporting experience.
• 5 years of management experience with high-performing teams.
• Experience with SEC filings and US GAAP financial statement preparation.
• Knowledge of statutory accounting principles and NAIC reporting.
• Advanced Excel skills; experience with Workiva and NetSuite.

Responsibilities

• Lead preparation and review of periodic SEC filings and US GAAP financial statements.
• Own the financial reporting calendar, disclosures, and tie-outs.
• Lead technical accounting research for complex transactions.
• Develop and communicate accounting policies and guidance.
• Coordinate with external auditors on audits and reviews.
• Improve internal controls over financial reporting.
• Lead the accounting policy team and cross-functional partnerships.
• Improve reporting systems and close processes.
• Prepare Audit Committee and Board presentations.
