The Problems You’ll Solve

The Director for Visiting Delegations coordinates the Mayor’s Office of International Affairs’ engagement with international delegations visiting New York City agencies. The Director coordinates and facilitates meaningful exchanges between visiting delegations and City agencies to promote mutual learning, policy innovation, and international cooperation. In addition, the Senior Director serves as the office’s lead liaison for an assigned geographic region, maintaining relationships with foreign governments, diplomatic representatives, and key regional stakeholders.

Specifically, The Director Will
  • Coordinate vetting and logistics for receiving international delegations visiting NYC’s municipal government.
  • Design and facilitate exchanges between visiting delegations and City agencies that promote collaboration, policy learning, and the sharing of best practices on urban challenges and mayoral priorities.
  • Work closely with IA staff assigned to regions, and coordinate with City Hall, City agencies, consulates, and external partners to ensure the successful execution of these visits.
  • Serve as the office’s lead relationship manager for an assigned geographic region, maintaining partnerships with foreign governments, diplomatic representatives, and other stakeholders.
About You
  • You have demonstrated experience managing high-level international delegations, diplomatic engagements, major events, or intergovernmental initiatives.
  • You have strong knowledge of international affairs, diplomatic protocol, and municipal governance, with the ability to facilitate policy exchange and collaboration across institutions.
  • You have experience coordinating across government agencies, foreign governments, consulates, international organizations, and external stakeholders.
  • You have excellent project management, communication, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to manage complex initiatives and respond effectively in fast-paced and emergency situations.
Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • 5+ years of experience in international affairs, diplomacy, government relations, emergency management, public policy, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Do you have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university?
  • Do you have an associate degree from an accredited college or university along with two (2) years of experience with administrative, analytic, coordinative, supervisory or liaison responsibilities?
  • Do you have a four-year high school diploma, or its educational equivalent approved by a state's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization along with four (4) years of experience as described in question "2" above?
  • Do you have a satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to that described in questions "1," "2," and/or "3" above?
Preferred Skills
  • You have multilingual proficiency, with the ability to engage effectively with international partners and New York City’s diverse immigrant communities. - You have robust relationship management experience involving diverse groups and individuals. - You have excellent project management, facilitation, writing, and communication skills. - You have the ability to work independently, actively seek collaboration, and support colleagues in their work.
Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
