Job summary

The Hartford is seeking a Director or Assistant Director to advance financial planning, performance insights, and actuarial support across P&C lines. You will lead planning, forecasting, and earnings prep with cross-functional partners, driving automation and analytics to improve profitability and decision-making.

Hybrid work options exist with offices in Hartford, Chicago, or Charlotte; remote tenure possible with travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, or a related field.
• Progressive experience in financial planning & analysis, actuarial, insurance finance, or related analytical roles; level and title may vary based on experience and qualifications.
• Strong foundation in financial analysis, forecasting, budgeting, variance analysis, or actuarial pricing/reserving concepts.
• Advanced Excel skills and experience with large data sets; TM1, Power BI, Python, SQL, R or similar tools are a plus.
• Comfort using automation, AI tools, and analytical technologies to improve efficiency and insight generation.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with ability to influence stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual planning, forecasting, and outlook processes with profitability metrics.
• Partner with Finance, Actuarial, Product, Underwriting, Claims, and business leaders to deliver actionable insights.
• Drive loss ratio planning, catastrophe and expense assumptions, and other key inputs for decision-making.
• Develop, enhance, and govern planning, pricing, and reporting tools and models for accuracy and transparency.
• Enable and perform results analysis and variance reporting versus plan and prior year.
• Prepare management reporting, dashboards, and executive presentations highlighting trends and risks.
• Coordinate Earnings Prep and Competitive Analytics materials for quarterly/annual cycles.
• Research new ways to provide value to internal partners through planning and Earnings Prep processes.
• Identify opportunities to automate recurring processes and improve data quality using TM1, AI, Python, or other tools.
• Establish and maintain controls, documentation, and governance over models and processes.
• Lead the LRP Leadership Group and cross-functional initiatives including process redesign and new capabilities.
• Mentor and develop team members and promote continuous improvement.
