Job summary

Canine Companions seeks a Director of the Field Training Center to lead fundraising and operations across the geography. You will coordinate with regional philanthropy and volunteer teams to secure gifts and grow public support.

Oversee daily business, manage a 75+ donor portfolio, plan events, and engage communities. The role requires leadership, collaboration, and a track record of five- to six-figure gifts.

About the Position

The director field training center is responsible for contributing to the annual goals and the long-term field training center fundraising plan to secure and grow Canine Companions’ financial support through individual, foundation, and corporate gifts as well as special events. This position serves as the management lead in the field training center and is responsible for overseeing the daily business operations. Reporting to and working closely with the regional executive director, the director field training center is responsible for planning, coordination, implementation and management of fund development, community outreach and general administration in the field training center geography. They will work closely with the regional philanthropy team to identify, develop, and solicit community, local and regional funding sources. The position supports all regional fundraising events and related projects, volunteer activities, and has responsibility for soliciting gifts up to $100,000 with primary focus on gifts of $10,000 and above.

Key Responsibilities
  • Field Training Center Leadership: Responsible for the advancement of Canine Companions’ mission, vision, and core values in the field training center geography. Oversee the field training center operations to meet or exceed qualitative and quantitative goals for revenue, public support, donor and volunteer cultivation, and community outreach.
  • Community Representation: Serve as the lead representative for Canine Companions in the field training center geography. Actively promote and optimize a strong flow of public presentations, awareness and partnerships.
  • Fundraising Strategy: Collaborate with regional executive director to develop and implement annual fundraising plan including income and expense budgets. Develop resources to meet anticipated income needs of the field training center and overall regional budget.
  • Donor Cultivation and Solicitation: Qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward a portfolio of 75+ qualified prospects in the $1,000+ giving range with and emphasis on donors at $10,000 + to achieve or exceed goals for assigned donor portfolio.
  • Fundraising Events: Coordinate with regional Manager Philanthropy Events and liaison with regional fundraising event committees to plan, coordinate, organize and execute events in the field training center area to ensure events achieve or exceed established goals.
  • Community and Volunteer Engagement: Strengthen engagement between the organization and volunteers, donors, and community at large, deepening their affinity for the organization and activating them locally.
  • Team Leadership: Collaborate with the field training center team to build an inclusive environment where all departments interact, celebrate, and train together as one team. Effectively communicate strategic initiatives and implement change management.
  • Staff Development: Coach and develop direct reports providing them with the tools and resources needed to successfully execute their role. Work with them to provide career and growth opportunities to maintain a high level of engagement.
  • Regional Engagement: Travel throughout the region for cultivation of key communities and activities such as donor or prospect calls, small group meetings, community lectures, or public demonstrations to showcase the mission.
  • Facility Management: Lead on facility management of the campus and actively collaborate with program where appropriate.
Qualifications

To be successful in this role, candidates should possess the following:

Must Have:
  • A proven record of success in meeting fundraising goals.
  • Demonstrated prior success with five and six figure gift solicitations.
  • Able to balance competing priorities, adhere to deadlines and be flexible to accommodate new projects.
  • Understands the needs and interests of donors in order to enhance Canine Companions donor relationships.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; motivating public speaker.
  • Ability to work in a cross functional and collaborative environment.
  • Prompt decision-making, including managing performance and addressing difficult situations.
  • Able to effectively delegate and oversee projects.
Nice to Have:
  • Experience in event planning and organization and volunteer management preferred.
Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of combined philanthropy leadership and fundraising experience in a non-profit organization. Proven ability to attract and optimize relationships with community, corporate and foundation leaders, donors and volunteers.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, preferably in field directly related to this role, or combinations of education and experience that would lead to the successful performance of the essential functions of the role.
  • $95,000-$100,000 annually
  • For internal candidates, compensation will be set within the posted wage range for the role, in consideration of internal equity and the scope of the position.

The base salary range above represents the low and high of the range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package for employees.
