Job summary

Qualifications

  • MBA with demonstrated record of success or equivalent business/analytical background.
  • 5+ years in enterprise-level strategy, strategy consulting, or corporate strategy & development, including 2+ years post-MBA.
  • Strong critical thinking with ability to elevate thinking and apply judgment.
  • Advanced quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills; experience with competitive intelligence tools (e.g., S&P Capital IQ) is a plus.
  • Strong written and oral communication and ability to influence others.
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic environment and partner needs.
  • P&C insurance or financial services experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Drive strategic development, prioritization, and execution of high-priority initiatives for the Executive Leadership Team and stakeholders across Business Units and Functions.
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders to provide strategic insight and guidance with technical insurance expertise.
  • Own workstreams across enterprise strategy setting and connect with Finance for integrated planning and capital management.
  • Monitor market dynamics, analyze competitors, and evaluate Liberty's strategic positioning.
  • Conduct in-depth research, collect data from internal/external sources, and synthesize outputs to identify solutions.
  • Craft storylines to articulate findings and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Design, manage, and execute workplans to drive multiple high-impact initiatives while ensuring delivery quality.

The Enterprise Strategy team is responsible for defining and shaping the company's long-term strategy and executing strategic initiatives to position the organization for sustained profitable growth. We partner directly with the executive leadership team and senior business stakeholders to drive transformational change and deliver enterprise-wide impact.

The Details

Reporting to the VP, Enterprise Strategy Officer, you will be an integral member of the dedicated Enterprise Strategy team that advises Liberty Mutual’s senior executives in making critical decisions and setting Liberty’s long-term strategy.

As a Director, you will play a key role in developing a Liberty perspective on key industry trends and the broader competitive landscape, owning workstreams across the strategic planning process, and building relationships with strategy and finance counterparts across the Business Units and Corporate Functions to frame and provide recommendations on key strategic choices.

You will work closely with the Enterprise Strategy Officer who will support your development as you work toward your career aspirations. In turn, you will have the opportunity to coach and guide more junior practitioners on the Enterprise Strategy team and in the broader CS&R community.

Your Responsibilities will Include:

  • Driving strategic development, prioritization, and execution of high-priority, high-visibility initiatives for the Executive Leadership Team and senior stakeholders across the Business Units and Functions
  • Building strong relationships with key stakeholders across the Business Units and Functions to provide strategic insight and guidance paired with technical insurance expertise (e.g., risk, capital)
  • Owning workstreams across the enterprise strategy setting and strategic planning process and partnering with the Finance organization to drive connectivity with broader integrated planning and capital management activities
  • Maintaining and developing a strong understanding of market dynamics and emerging trends, monitoring financial and operational performance of competitors, and performing in-depth market research and analysis to evaluate Liberty’s strategic positioning
  • Conducting in-depth research, collecting data from various internal and external sources, and analyzing and synthesizing outputs to identify solutions to complex problems
  • Framing and crafting storylines that clearly articulate findings, insights, and recommendations and communicating with senior leadership to move the organization to action
  • Designing, managing, and executing workplans that support the team’s ability to drive multiple high-impact initiatives forward while maintaining a high standard of delivery
Qualifications
  • MBA with a demonstrated record of success or equivalent business and analytical background; CFA or similar credential a plus or equivalent demonstrated financial experience / acumen
  • 5+ years of experience with some combination of enterprise-level strategy, strategy consulting, and / or corporate strategy & development experience, including 2+ years of post-MBA experience
  • Strong critical thinking skills with ability to elevate thinking and apply judgment during analysis about how components fit together and with the bigger picture
  • Advanced quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills; experience with Competitive Intelligence tools (e.g., S&P Capital IQ) is a plus
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to gain support and influence others
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic, changing environment and partner needs
  • Strong time-management and project management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • P&C insurance or financial services experience strongly preferred
  • The role is located in Boston, MA only; working in a hybrid model (weekly blend of 3-4 days in-office and 1-2 days working from home)
