Job Summary & Qualifications

The Director of Emergency Services ensures high quality, patient‑centered care through oversight of unit(s), staffing, forecasting, planning, and budget monitoring. The role fosters accountability, collaboration and strategy implementation to support facility objectives.

Major Responsibilities
Quality
  • Develop and implement evidence‑based practices to improve patient safety, quality outcomes, and compliance with care standards.
  • Manage variability in clinical practice to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and cost reduction.
  • Maintain awareness of benchmarks, accreditations and designations; pursue improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure adherence to legal and regulatory standards and develop corresponding policies.
  • Oversee regular equipment maintenance per regulatory or accreditation standards.
  • Optimize patient throughput through forecasting, flow coordination and discharge planning.
  • Create care‑coordination policies that promote quality, safety and efficiency; foster interdisciplinary communication.
  • Direct nursing practice and unit operations; develop policies and governance for patient/family needs assessment.
Service
  • Lead efforts to achieve a distinguished patient experience and uphold accountability for consistent interactions.
  • Leverage feedback mechanisms to benchmark performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Implement strategies to enhance patient experience and achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Collaborate with experts and patient‑experience leaders to ensure evidence‑based practice adoption.
People
  • Cultivate a culture that aligns with organizational vision and values; recognize, value and support employees.
  • Identify training needs and provide coaching, feedback and development opportunities.

Finance
  • Participate in the annual budget process, provide revenue and expense forecasts, staffing and equipment needs.
  • Monitor budget performance, analyze trends and variance, and implement action plans.
  • Ensure effective labor management: position control, scheduling, productivity and premium pay utilization.
  • Manage operating expenses, identify cost‑reduction opportunities and drive savings initiatives.

  • Perform duties as assigned.

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing – required.
  • Master’s degree – preferred.
  • 3+ years applicable experience – required.
  • 5+ years applicable experience – preferred.
