Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, Ecosystem Services Markets based in the United States.

This role sits at the intersection of environmental science, finance, and policy, focused on advancing innovative ecosystem services markets that unlock new funding pathways for large-scale reforestation and forest restoration efforts. You will act as a strategic thought leader, helping quantify, model, and translate ecological benefits—such as water, biodiversity, and climate resilience—into credible, investable value. The position combines deep analytical work with cross-functional collaboration, including partnerships with consultants, scientists, and external stakeholders. You will also contribute to shaping policy and financing strategies that expand investment in resilient ecosystems across the U.S. A key aspect of the role involves evaluating emerging market mechanisms and building the economic case for nature-based solutions. This is a highly impactful role where research, strategy, and execution converge to influence national-scale environmental outcomes.

Accountabilities
  • Manage end-to-end consulting engagements related to ecosystem services measurement, water benefit accounting, and restoration impact modeling.
  • Oversee external partners and consulting firms delivering technical tools and methodologies for ecosystem services quantification.
  • Use geospatial and internal data tools to estimate environmental benefits from reforestation and restoration projects.
  • Collaborate with science teams to refine methodologies for impact measurement and validation.
  • Monitor and analyze trends in ecosystem services markets, including carbon, water, biodiversity, and climate resilience.
  • Conduct market research, competitive analysis, and stakeholder mapping to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Identify and evaluate high-impact policy opportunities at municipal and state levels to support restoration funding.
  • Translate technical findings into presentations and insights for internal and external audiences.
  • Support grant reporting, proposal development, and partnership documentation for funding initiatives.
  • Manage project reporting, deliverables tracking, and outcomes documentation across consulting engagements.
  • Communicate ecosystem services value propositions to corporate, philanthropic, government, and community stakeholders.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Hydrology, Environmental Science, Civil or Environmental Engineering, Natural Resources, or related field required; Master’s degree strongly preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in project management within hydrology, environmental engineering, forestry, or ecological restoration.
  • Strong background in water benefit accounting, ecosystem services, or corporate water stewardship.
  • Experience working in consulting, advisory, or project-based professional services environments.
  • Proficiency in financial modeling, particularly using Excel for scenario analysis and valuation.
  • Experience working with geospatial tools and platforms such as ArcGIS and data management systems.
  • Strong analytical and systems-thinking abilities with a data-driven approach to problem solving.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills across technical, policy, and executive audiences.
  • Preferred experience in ecosystem services markets, environmental finance, or climate-related investment frameworks.
Benefits
  • Competitive salary range of $80,000-$100,000 annually
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) retirement plan with 5% employer match
  • Health and wellness benefits including EAP, FSA, disability, and life insurance
  • Paid vacation, sick leave, holidays, parental bonding leave, and other leave programs
  • Flexible remote work environment within the United States
  • Technology stipend and additional employee perks
  • Professional development opportunities in environmental finance and sustainability
  • Mission-driven role with national impact on climate resilience and ecosystem restoration
