Job description

About the Role: Grade Level (for internal use): 13 The Team S&P Global's DevOps Engineering organization sits at the centre of how the firm delivers software — building and operating the pipelines, platforms, and infrastructure that enable fast, secure, and reliable software delivery at enterprise scale. This is a people-first, automation-first engineering leadership role where you will shape both the technical direction and the team culture of a function that directly influences engineering velocity and platform resilience across the organization. The ideal candidate is a pragmatic and empathetic leader with an automation-first mindset — one who sets clear expectations, makes sound decisions under pressure, and builds a culture of ownership, reliability, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities and Impact
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of DevOps engineers through structured feedback, performance management, and career planning — recruiting and retaining strong DevOps talent while fostering an inclusive, accountable, and continuous-improvement engineering culture that attracts and grows top practitioners.
  • Own the strategy, roadmap, and delivery of CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure, container platforms, and developer tooling — driving adoption of infrastructure-as-code, configuration management, and automation to measurably improve consistency, speed, and repeatability across the engineering estate.
  • Ensure platform reliability, availability, and performance through observability practices, SLO definition and measurement, capacity planning, and effective incident and problem management — establishing measurable reliability standards that application engineering teams can depend on.
  • Embed security and compliance controls into delivery pipelines and platforms in partnership with Security, Risk, and Architecture teams — translating compliance requirements into automated, auditable guardrails that protect the software delivery lifecycle without compromising engineering velocity.
  • Partner with application engineering, product, and operations teams to measurably improve DORA metrics — deployment frequency, lead time for changes, change failure rate, and mean time to recovery — using data-driven insights to drive continuous platform improvement and demonstrate business value.
  • Manage cloud and tooling costs, vendor relationships, and platform investments with a focus on efficiency and value — communicating strategy, priorities, risks, and outcomes to senior stakeholders and making sound resource allocation decisions that balance innovation with operational discipline.
What We're Looking For: Basic (Required) Qualifications
  • Experience: 12+ years of experience in DevOps, platform engineering, infrastructure, or site reliability engineering — including 5+ years leading DevOps or platform engineering teams with accountability for performance, delivery, and team development
  • CI/CD & Cloud Platforms: Hands‑on experience with CI/CD tooling such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps, and demonstrated production experience with at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP) — including containerization technologies such as Docker and container orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes
  • Infrastructure Automation: Demonstrated production experience with infrastructure-as-code and configuration management tooling such as Terraform, Ansible, or Helm — driving consistency, repeatability, and automation at enterprise scale across multi‑environment cloud deployments
  • Platform Reliability & Observability: Proven track record of ensuring platform reliability and availability through observability practices, SLO definition and measurement, capacity planning, and structured production incident response and problem management
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with DevSecOps practices including software supply‑chain security, artifact management (e.g., JFrog Artifactory), and vulnerability management pipeline integration
  • Experience building internal developer platforms or developer portals applying platform engineering principles
  • Experience with DORA metrics frameworks, SRE practices, and FinOps cloud cost optimization in enterprise environments
  • Experience managing distributed or global DevOps engineering teams in a regulated enterprise environment
  • Relevant certifications in cloud platforms, container orchestration, or infrastructure automation (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect, CKA/CKAD, or equivalent)
