Job description

Electric Hydrogen ’s mission is to make molecules to decarbonize our world! Our outstanding people are our most important asset and will allow us to deliver hydrogen from renewable electrolysis for heavy industry, at prices below fossil fuels.

We are searching for a Director, Project Development to join our team. In this role, you will lead the development of large‑scale industrial green hydrogen projects from conception through Final Investment Decision (FID), deploying Electric Hydrogen's HYPRPlant technology.

This is a senior individual contributor role requiring a driven, commercially minded leader with a passion for industrial decarbonization. You will build and advance a pipeline of investable green hydrogen and e‑Fuel projects across the United States, leading all development activities from site identification and customer origination through permitting, offtake contracting, renewable power procurement, financing, and other critical milestones required to reach FID.

You will serve as the primary development lead for projects within your portfolio, coordinating cross‑functional teams comprised of internal subject matter experts and external partners to successfully advance projects through development. The ideal candidate combines strong commercial acumen, project development expertise, and a demonstrated track record of bringing complex energy or industrial projects to financial close or FID.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Originate and develop a pipeline of large‑scale green hydrogen projects across the United States, advancing opportunities from conception through Final Investment Decision (FID) utilizing Electric Hydrogen's HYPRPlant technology
  • Lead projects through all development workstreams, including site acquisition, customer and offtake contracting, renewable power procurement, grid interconnection, permitting, environmental reviews, and project financing
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with industrial customers, offtake counterparties, landowners, utilities, developers, and strategic partners to support both existing projects and future origination efforts
  • Lead cross‑functional project development teams, including internal subject matter experts and external consultants, to achieve project milestones safely, on time, and within budget
  • Develop, maintain, and evaluate project proformas, financial models, and business cases while identifying, assessing, and mitigating development risks
  • Prepare investment recommendations and support internal approval processes at key project milestones
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, capital approvals, and reporting requirements across a portfolio of development‑stage projects
  • Serve as a market expert within assigned industry segments, including ammonia, methanol, e‑SAF, and other industrial decarbonization applications, contributing to overall company strategy and origination efforts
  • Collaborate closely with global sales teams to structure and advance customer partnerships, development agreements, joint ventures, and other commercial arrangements
  • Partner with internal and external technology experts to evaluate project technologies, process configurations, and e‑Fuel pathway options
  • Support the continued growth of Electric Hydrogen's project development platform through market intelligence, strategic partnerships, and industry engagement
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field
  • 10+ years of experience in project development within the energy, renewable energy, infrastructure, industrial, or related sectors
  • Demonstrated track record of advancing complex projects through development and achieving Final Investment Decision (FID), financial close, or equivalent project milestones
  • Experience developing green hydrogen, industrial gases, e‑Fuels, renewable energy, power generation, infrastructure, or other clean energy projects strongly preferred
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience developing customer relationships, negotiating commercial agreements, and advancing project origination opportunities
  • Experience negotiating offtake agreements, development agreements, joint ventures, or other complex commercial contracts
  • Experience leading cross‑functional teams and managing external consultants and service providers across engineering, environmental, legal, commercial, and financial disciplines
  • Strong understanding of project economics, financial modeling, and development risk management
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, stakeholder management, and presentation skills
  • Ability to operate independently, manage multiple priorities, and drive projects forward in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial environment
  • Self‑starter with the energy, resilience, and entrepreneurial mindset to thrive in a mission‑driven, high‑growth environment
  • Highly ethical, collaborative, and committed to team success and inclusive ways of working
  • MBA, Master's degree, or other advanced degree preferred
