The Director, Derivatives Post‑Trade Technology is responsible for the strategic direction, leadership, and oversight of global Derivatives Post‑Trade Technology with primary accountability for Confirmations, Settlements, and post trade lifecycle processing across OTC and listed derivatives.

This role drives modernization of the derivatives post‑trade technology landscape, partnering closely with Global Wholesale Operations, Risk, Finance, Legal, and regional Technology teams. The incumbent will define and execute a technology strategy that reduces operational and settlement risk, improves straight‑through processing, enhances regulatory compliance, and delivers measurable business value.

What You'll Do
  • Own the end‑to‑end technology stack supporting derivatives confirmations and settlements, including trade confirmation, matching, affirmation, settlement instruction generation, and exception management.
  • Provide strategic leadership for post‑trade processing across OTC and exchange‑traded derivatives, including rates, FX, credit, and equity derivatives.
  • Drive modernization initiatives focused on automation, straight‑through processing (STP), resiliency, and reduction of manual controls and operational risk.
  • Ensure 24x7 production stability for critical derivatives post‑trade platforms with global follow‑the‑sun support.
  • Lead delivery of medium‑to‑large technology programs with annual IT spend typically ranging from $2MM to $15MM.
  • Manage complex regulatory and industry‑driven initiatives (e.g., T+1/T+0 settlement impacts, margin and settlement alignment, recordkeeping and audit requirements).
  • Partner with Operations and business stakeholders to translate derivatives post‑trade requirements into actionable technology roadmaps and executable delivery plans.
  • Own and manage vendor relationships across the derivatives post‑trade ecosystem (e.g., confirmation, matching, settlement, and messaging platforms).
  • Apply modern engineering and delivery practices including Agile, DevOps, CI/CD, cloud‑adjacent architectures, and automation frameworks.
  • Ensure adherence to enterprise architecture standards, information security policies, and data governance requirements.
  • Act as the primary technology interface between derivatives Operations, Product Control, Risk, and other Capital Markets Technology teams.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen incident management, root‑cause analysis, and knowledge transfer for production issues.
  • Communicate technology strategy, risk posture, and delivery status effectively to senior technology and business leadership.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day‑to‑day activities and decisions.
  • Creates an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day‑to‑day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  • Build a high‑performance environment and implement a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviors; communicating vision/values/business strategy; and managing succession and development planning for the team.
What You'll Bring
  • 12+ years of technology and capital markets experience, with senior leadership accountability.
  • Strong technical background in post‑trade, settlements, or confirmations technology.
  • Deep understanding of derivatives lifecycle processing, particularly confirmations, settlements, and exception management.
  • Proven experience delivering large‑scale, complex technology programs in a regulated environment.
  • Strong vendor management and commercial negotiation experience.
  • Excellent business acumen and ability to align technology delivery to strategic and financial objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead transformation, continuous improvement, and operational resilience initiatives.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to engage executive leadership and senior business stakeholders.
