Job description

The Travelers Indemnity Company has an opening for a Director, Data Engineer in Hartford, CT. This position is hybrid; may work from home up to 2 days per week, as permitted.

Manage team of engineers engaged in design, development and implementation of data solutions focused on capturing, managing and storing, securing and utilizing structured and unstructured data from internal and external sources. Influence technology architecture, design standards, development practices, continuous integration/deployment practices and incorporates assurance processes into technology solutions. Lead development of analytic data products, including pilot and proof of concepts. Execute data strategies with an understanding of enterprise architecture, consumption patterns, platforms and application infrastructure. Manage the operationalization and automation of all capabilities to ensure secure, supported and scalable solutions. Present analysis and recommendations to help influence management decisions. Guide and coach team members to accelerate career development. Establish team processes and procedures. Maintain relationships with partner teams to ensure needs are met and impacted areas plan work accordingly. This position supervises: 2 Data Engineer IIs and 2 Engineering Development Program (EVP) Participants, Data Engineering.

Must possess at least a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in Computer Science or a related STEM field and at least 6 years of progressive experience as a Data Engineer or in a related role. In the alternative, at least a master’s degree or its equivalent in Computer Science or a related STEM field and at least 4 years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a related role. Must also possess the following: at least 4 years of experience applying knowledge of industry and technology trends to formulate solutions; at least 4 years of experience with presenting complex information to next level of management; at least 4 years of experience with the following tools, techniques, and manipulation including Cloud platforms: AWS, Data Management, Data Warehousing, Databricks, Snowflake etc.; at least 4 years of experience with the following programming languages: Python and Data Structures; and at least 4 years of experience with Data Engineering, ETL/ELT tools, techniques and manipulation including Cloud platforms, programming languages.

Approximately 40 hours per week; the salary range for this position is from $194,480 to $230,000 per year.
