Job summary

Merck is seeking a senior leader to drive a Zscaler-based SASE platform across its environment, embedding Zero Trust across users, applications and workloads.

You will partner with infra, networking, cloud, and security teams to implement, monitor, and optimize security controls, while mentoring engineers and advancing AI-driven threat detection and automation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS/IT/Cybersecurity or related field.
• Zscaler certs, CISSP, CIAM or similar credentials desirable.
• Extensive design, deployment, and operation of Zscaler in large enterprises.
• 10+ years in Information Technology.
• 5+ years designing and managing Zero Trust and Zscaler initiatives.
• Strong understanding of Zero Trust principles and technologies.
• Expertise in AI Security, network, endpoint, and cloud security.
• Experience with firewalls, IDPS, network segmentation, secure remote access.
• Analytical, collaborative, eager to learn emerging tech.
• Experience with ZIA, ZPA, ZTNA, cloud security, and network transformation.

Responsibilities

Job description

Lead strategy, architecture, implementation, and operations for an enterprise Zero Trust program while driving a Zscaler-based SASE platform across Merck’s environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, integrate, maintain, and continuously enhance a Zscaler-based SASE platform to enable secure access for users, applications, and workloads across the organization.
• Partner with infrastructure, networking, cloud, cybersecurity, application teams, and business stakeholders to apply Zero Trust principles and network security solutions across enterprise systems and platforms.
• Oversee implementation and operations for security technologies, including configuration, monitoring, detection, and response to maintain operational excellence and a strong security posture.
• Define Zero Trust engineering standards, mentor and develop team members, and identify opportunities to leverage AI-driven capabilities for threat detection, automation, security analytics, and operational efficiency.
• Stay current on advancements in Zero Trust, cloud security, network security, AI security, and emerging technologies to evaluate and adopt solutions that support organizational security strategy.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
• Relevant industry certifications, including Zscaler certifications, CISSP, CIAM, or similar credentials (highly desirable).
• Advanced hands-on experience designing, deploying, and operating Zscaler solutions in large-scale enterprise environments.
• 10+ years of experience in Information Technology.
• 5+ years designing, implementing, and managing Zero Trust and Zscaler security initiatives.
• Strong understanding of Zero Trust principles, methodologies, and technologies.
• Expertise in AI Security, network security, endpoint security, and cloud security architecture.
• Experience with firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDPS), network segmentation, and secure remote access technologies.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to learn and apply emerging technologies and strong communication and collaboration capabilities.
• Extensive experience with Zscaler Internet Access (ZIA), Zscaler Private Access (ZPA), Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA), cloud security, network transformation, and enterprise-scale Zero Trust security engineering programs.
• Proven success leading high-performing Zero Trust engineering teams, supporting complex security transformations, and guiding IT and security teams in implementing and operating Zero Trust principles.
