Job summary

American Express Global Business Travel (Amex GBT) seeks a Director of Cyber Defense to lead CSIRT, CTI, Detection Engineering, and DSI. You will shape strategy, budget, and operating rhythms for global security, and partner with Legal, Privacy, HR, and executives on sensitive incidents.

You will drive metrics, oversee tabletop exercises, and build a strong security program that protects travelers, colleagues, and data.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in cybersecurity, including 5+ years leading incident response or security operations.
• Direct experience running sensitive investigations involving data privacy or insider risk, ideally with Legal or HR.
• Working knowledge of threat intelligence practices and how intelligence shapes detection priorities.
• Experience with detection content development and MITRE ATT&CK mappings.
• Proven track record leading teams during live incidents with clear executive communication.
• A bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow four teams—CSIRT, CTI, Detection Engineering, and DSI—as one cyber defense function.
• Set vision, roadmap, and budget for cyber defense capabilities; report progress to senior leadership.
• Hire, coach, and develop team leads and analysts; build a bench for high‑pressure incidents.
• Define metrics like dwell time, MTTD/MTTR, and coverage to show real progress.
• Collaborate with IT, Legal, Privacy, HR, Fraud, and business leaders; coordinate cross‑functional security efforts.
• Own end-to-end incident response programs, including playbooks and after‑action reviews; act as incident commander as needed.
• Direct collection, analysis, and distribution of threat intelligence; translate into detection priorities.
