Job summary

BioMarin in California is seeking an experienced and business‑oriented attorney to serve as the lead legal advisor for its Early Research & Development organization. This role will partner with scientific, business, and functional leaders to enable research collaborations, advance the pipeline, and support long-term strategic objectives.

Qualifications

• J.D. degree and active bar membership in at least one U.S. state.
• 7+ years of legal experience in biotech, pharma, or life sciences.
• Proven ability to negotiate and draft research, collaboration, licensing, and technology agreements.
• Deep IP understanding including patents, licensing, ownership, and commercialization.
• Strong strategic counsel with experience partnering with scientific teams.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to manage a diverse portfolio of complex matters independently.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary legal advisor to BioMarin's Early Research & Development organization.
• Provide risk-based legal counsel to support research initiatives and collaborations.
• Partner with WW R&D, Business Development, IP, Alliance Management, Procurement, and other functions.
• Develop trusted relationships with executives and contribute to strategic decisions.
