Spear Education is committed to consistent compensation practices across our organization. Final salary offers will take into account factors such as candidate experience, interview performance, and current team salary parity.
Description
Spear Education is looking for a Director of Content & Brand to lead how we tell our story, grow our organic presence, and turn our expertise into content that works harder across every channel.
This is a senior player-coach role for someone who is equal parts strategist, creator and creative leader.
You'll lead content and creative strategy while working hands-on alongside a talented team across editorial, design and multimedia. You should be just as comfortable setting the strategy and giving creative direction as you are jumping into the work yourself.
We're not interested in an editorial calendar filled with one-and-done content. We want someone who sees every strong idea as an asset that can become a webpage, article, video, email, social series, sales enablement piece, AI-search answer, campaign and more.
You'll help us build a modern content engine that gets smarter and more valuable over time.
What You'll Own
- Own and evolve Spear's content strategy across the customer journey, from awareness and organic discovery through product adoption and sales.
- Set editorial priorities and translate business objectives, audience needs and market opportunities into a cohesive content roadmap.
- Write and edit high-impact content across formats including website copy, thought leadership, campaigns, landing pages, email, scripts and sales enablement.
- Partner with subject matter experts to uncover the ideas, insights and stories our audiences care about and turn them into compelling content.
- Build a connected content ecosystem across topics, formats, audiences and channels rather than creating isolated assets.
- Develop a systematic approach to refreshing, repurposing, expanding and redistributing existing content.
- Find opportunities to turn one strong idea into many high-value assets and experiences.
- Develop content strategies that support both product-led growth and traditional sales motions.
- Use performance data, audience behavior and business priorities to continually improve our content strategy.
Brand & Creative Leadership
- Lead how the Spear brand comes to life across content, campaigns and creative.
- Protect and strengthen a clear, differentiated and consistent brand voice.
- Lead and develop creative talent across editorial, design and multimedia, setting priorities and providing strong strategic and creative direction.
- Build briefs that clearly connect audience, business objective, message, channel and creative execution.
- Maintain a high quality bar across copy, design, video and campaign creative.
- Partner across marketing, product, sales and other teams to translate business needs into strong creative work.
- Create an environment where great ideas can come from anywhere while ensuring the work ladders back to a cohesive brand and content strategy.
- Know when to provide direction, when to coach and when to jump in and create alongside the team.
Organic Search, SEO & GEO
- Lead the content strategy behind Spear's organic visibility across traditional search and emerging AI-driven discovery.
- Bring a strong understanding of SEO fundamentals including search intent, topic authority, content architecture, internal linking and optimization.
- Build and continually evolve our approach to Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) and Answer Engine Optimization (AEO).
- Understand how platforms including Google, ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and other AI experiences discover, interpret, surface and cite content.
- Identify content gaps and opportunities using search behavior, customer questions, competitive signals and existing content performance.
- Develop strategies for updating, consolidating, expanding and connecting existing content to strengthen our overall authority.
- Measure content by its contribution to visibility, engagement, product adoption, pipeline and revenue, not simply publishing volume.
AI-Native Content & Creative Operations
AI should be part of how you work every day.
We're not looking for someone who occasionally uses an AI tool to rewrite a paragraph. We're looking for someone who is actively figuring out how AI changes what a modern content and creative function can accomplish.
- Be an advanced, hands-on user of Claude and other leading generative AI tools.
- Build AI-assisted workflows that increase the leverage and capabilities of the content and creative team.
- Use AI to accelerate research, analyze existing content, identify opportunities, develop briefs, create and refine content, repurpose assets and optimize performance.
- Build systems that make our existing library of content and subject matter expertise easier to find, reuse and expand.
- Continually experiment with new AI tools, workflows and capabilities as the landscape evolves.
- Establish the human review, editorial judgment and quality standards necessary to use AI at scale without sacrificing accuracy, originality or brand voice.
- Help the broader marketing organization become smarter and more capable in its use of AI.
What We're Looking For
- 8+ years of experience across content strategy, content marketing, brand, organic growth or related disciplines.
- Experience leading content and creative strategy while remaining highly hands-on.
- Exceptional writing, editing and storytelling skills.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating your own work across multiple content types.
- Demonstrated ability to build and execute a cohesive content strategy tied to business outcomes.
- Deep understanding of organic SEO and how content builds sustainable search visibility and authority.
- Current, practical knowledge of GEO, AEO and AI-driven discovery.
- Advanced experience using Claude and other generative AI tools in real-world marketing workflows.
- A track record of getting significantly more value from existing content through repurposing, optimization and distribution.
- Experience leading and developing creative professionals across disciplines such as content, design and multimedia.
- Strong understanding of how content supports both product-led growth and sales-led customer journeys.
- Strong creative judgment and the ability to provide clear, actionable feedback across disciplines.
- Ability to make complex or technical subjects clear, useful and compelling.
- Highly curious, resourceful and actively experimenting with where content, search, brand and AI are headed next.
- Comfortable operating with significant autonomy in a lean, fast-moving organization.
- Experience in healthcare, dental, education, SaaS or another complex industry is a plus.
You'll Probably Love This Role If...
- You think publishing something once and moving on is a missed opportunity.
- You can look at years of existing content and immediately start seeing ways to refresh, connect, combine, redistribute and expand it.
- You have strong opinions about what makes content worth someone's attention, but you're equally interested in whether anyone can actually find it.
- You're already using AI in ways that have materially changed how you work.
- You're comfortable working with subject matter experts, finding the interesting story buried in what they tell you, and helping turn it into something people actually want to read, watch or share.
- You can give thoughtful feedback on a creative concept in the morning, jump into copy before lunch and spend the afternoon figuring out why a competitor is showing up in search or AI answers when we aren't.
- You're a leader, but you're still a maker.
- And you're excited about helping define what a modern content and brand function should look like.
