Job summary

Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation seeks a Director of Compensation and Benefits to lead the HR total rewards strategy, design, and administration, including base salary, incentives, market pricing and benefits, aligning with enterprise goals.

Reporting to the SVP, Human Resources, you will manage programs, oversee salary structures, vendor relationships, compliance, and development of communication and training to support performance-driven culture.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum ten (10) years of progressive total rewards (compensation & benefits) experience required.
  • Minimum five (5) years managing teams within Compensation and Benefits required.
  • Related, relevant, and/or direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational requirements indicated above.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and executes strategies and programs designed to achieve the enterprise’s strategic goals supported by compensation and benefits programs and policies.
  • Responsible for the planning, analysis, obtaining leadership buy-in, development and implementation for all compensation and benefits offerings through collaboration with the HR team and the appropriate Executive Team Leader(s) to align with the organization's strategic goals.
  • Plans, implement, and manage all total reward programs and initiatives. Oversee plans, policies, and processes, including administration, communication, and training enablers.
  • Develops, maintain, and communicate an effective total rewards framework strategically aligned with and in support of our performance-based culture.
  • Provides consultative advice and excellent customer service to managers and HR business partners on total rewards decisions (e.g. promotions/transfers, job offers) and policy and guideline interpretation.

Job description

Reporting to the SVP, Human Resources, the Director of Compensation and Benefits is a leader in the Human Resources (HR) department Is responsible for the strategy, research, design, and overall management of total reward policies and programs (base salary, short-term incentives, long-term incentives, market pricing, and benefits), as well as the associated training, communication, and technology enablers to support the enterprise’s values, vision and goals. This includes being the key thought leader promoting benefits and compensation into the integration of the entire enterprise portfolio offerings to the organization.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Develops and executes strategies and programs designed to achieve the enterprise’s strategic goals supported by compensation and benefits programs and policies.
  • Responsible for the planning, analysis, obtaining leadership buy-in, development and implementation for all compensation and benefits offerings through collaboration with the HR team and the appropriate Executive Team Leader(s) to align with the organization's strategic goals.
  • Plans, implement, and manage all total reward programs and initiatives. Oversee plans, policies, and processes, including administration, communication, and training enablers.
  • Develops, maintain, and communicate an effective total rewards framework strategically aligned with and in support of our performance-based culture.
  • Provides consultative advice and excellent customer service to managers and HR business partners on total rewards decisions (e.g. promotions/transfers, job offers) and policy and guideline interpretation.
  • Builds and maintain strong partnerships within the HR department and across the organization, with a high-level of effective interface with HR team members, Finance, Payroll, IT and Legal.
  • Oversees the compensation and benefit teams.
  • Oversees salary structures, development of salary budget and prepares policies and procedures to ensure the achievement of equitable and competitive employee compensation.
  • Oversees job analyses to determine appropriate market pricing; reviews and approves salary increases and advises management on compensation actions for employees.
  • Manages relationships with third party vendors and external consultants, including sourcing partners, negotiating contracts, and managing service level agreements.
  • Oversees audits: benefits and savings plan deductions, workers compensation, ACA reporting, and 401(k) programs.
  • Participates in the development and administration of performance review systems to ensure compliance with salary administration guidelines.
  • Other responsibilities, duties, tasks, and assignments that contribute to the mitigation or response to the COVID-19 public health emergency.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning reviewing and directing work; evaluating and appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Makes hiring decisions and designs individual development plans with succession planning in mind for all key roles.

Education, Experience And Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum ten (10) years of progressive total rewards (compensation & benefits) experience required.
  • Minimum five (5) years managing teams within Compensation and Benefits required.
  • Related, relevant, and/or direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational requirements indicated above.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities (ksa)
  • Must have managed large and complex programs of at least 7,000 FTEs.
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects at the same time and deliver quality programs and practices.
  • Must have executive presence and be able to present to Executives and Boards.
  • Must be able to demonstrate influential and negotiation skills with executive leadership.
  • Mastery of advanced Excel skills including complex formulas required.
  • Proven ability to provide leadership, guidance, collaboration, and empowerment is a must.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive business results is required.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND REGISTRATIONS
  • At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
  • Currently certified with at least one of the following certifications is preferred: CBP, CBPS, CCP or SPHR.
  • No Driving Responsibilities: Role does not require a driver’s license or insurance.
Physical Requirements/ Working Conditions – Environment
  • Primary work environment is in a climate-controlled office setting.
  • Work requires travel to attend meetings, trade shows, and conferences.
  • Incumbents may be required to work evening, weekend and holiday shifts.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, high-demand environment.
  • Strength sufficient to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects and/or move up to 40 pounds occasionally.
  • Sedentary work: involves sitting most of the time. Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
  • Physical activities that apply to the essential functions of the position are balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
  • Hearing sufficient to hear conversational levels in person, via videoconference and over the telephone.
  • Speech sufficient to make oneself heard and understood in person, in front of groups, in meetings, via videoconference and over the telephone.
  • Visual acuity that meets the requirements of the position: The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; expansive reading and visual inspection of employees, visitors or facility.
  • Mobility sufficient to safely move in an office environment, walk, stoop, bend and kneel, and enter, exit and operate a motor vehicle in the course of travel to promotional events, meetings, conferences, trade shows and San Manuel properties.
  • Endurance sufficient to sit, walk and stand for extended periods, and maintain efficiency throughout the entire work shift and during extended work hours.
  • The employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles including secondhand smoke.
