Job summary

Mayo Clinic is seeking a Director of Platform Technology to own the MCP cloud platform capabilities and customer integrations. Responsibilities

Working with the Senior Director, Platform Technology, this team member will be responsible for the foundational MCP cloud platform capabilities such as the common control plane, platform API services, shared infrastructure, and common security controls across the cloud environments. This Director will also own the customer integration function of our Deploy and Connect programs. This team member will execute planned technology strategy and roadmap, ensuring appropriate coordination with MCP Product and Services teams, Mayo Clinic IT (and its various offices) as well as all MCP construction partners and vendors. Working closely with the assigned Technology Principal Architects/Engineers, the Technology Director will be responsible for the design and architecture oversight ensuring all decisions related to the MCP technical infrastructure meet MCP expectations and requirements with regards to Mayo Clinic Platform. This team member will provide IT support for day-to-day general operations including but not limited to licensing, budgeting, ordering, planning, and coordinating support with Mayo IT and vendor/partner IT.

The position will be responsible for the following essential functions:

• Own the strategy and roadmap for common control plane capabilities, platform API services, shared infrastructure, and self-service capabilities and tooling to be used by other MCP engineering teams.
• Own the customer integration product, installation, automation, and configuring the distribution of MCP software and technology to our customer cloud environments.
• Lead, grow, and retain a team of engineers, with responsibility for hiring, performance, development, and succession planning.
• Define the technology vision for foundational cloud management capabilities, including target architecture, phasing, and implementation.
• Serve as the executive-level technical voice for internal and external customers and stakeholders, including MCP leadership, internal developer teams, and external Partners.
• Establish and own product-level SLAs for internal and external research customers, ensuring commitments are consistent with platform SLOs.
• Responsible for cloud computing cost planning, along with closely managing and appropriately allocating the costs to the correct customers or departments to ensure fiscal accountability of cloud resources.
• In partnership with MCP Product team, drive Make vs Partner vs Buy options in upcoming technology areas that may be of interest as part of its growth strategies.
• Drive alignment between the Platform roadmap, technology enablers and the product line needs of now and future.
• Ensuring the program technical milestones happen on time, technologies launch successfully, and software evolution strategies are in place.
• Sustain reliability and security posture for the platform, including patching, upgrades, vulnerability remediation, and incident response for the research computing environments.
• Work closely with MCP Services team to identify customer onboarding and support operations that Services will provide in collaboration with the Technology team.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in a relevant information technology field or a minimum 7 years direct enterprise healthcare IT leadership experience.
• 3-5 years supervisory/management experience required.
• 3-5 years project management, system architecture, and design.
• Advanced technical computer skills as required for technical support, oversight and planning to functional area and related systems.
• Experience with cloud architecture, deployments, and management in an enterprise setting.

AdditionalExperience and/orQualifications:

• Travel up to 25% of the time.
• Experience with Hyperscale Cloud Environments (Google preferred but AWS or Azure also considered)
• Experience with DevOps principles and implementation
• Desired Characteristics:
• Experience in driving and leading technology development and technical capability to guide strategically and manage resources.
• Business acumen, to gauge not just what can be done but to know what can be cost effectively and sustainably
• Must be able to communicate effectively with customers and constituents.
• This person must have the ability to promote and explain technology initiatives to business leaders outside of the technology organization and to external partners and customers.
• The selected individual must combine a solid technical foundation with forward-looking strategic skills to help develop a Platform strategy to enable Mayo Clinic to capitalize on emerging technologies.
• Ability to think beyond the technology itself and will understand key business drivers that ensure technology investment will provide substantial value or improvements to customers.
• Experience in Product development and agile processes
• Track record of managing large, complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
• Excellent teaming skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels within the organization, internally and externally.
• Experience managing external partners.
