Job description

Purpose: The Regional Director, Clinical Professional Development, provides direct oversight of implementation of clinical education curriculum for UPMC Presbyterian, Shadyside, and Western Psychiatric hospitals. Develops and interprets organizational policies for budgets and personnel within assigned scope; analyzes and evaluates activities to ensure established quality of patient care. Maintains accountability for leading and managing the human resources, clinical, financial, and administrative operations of the department to continuously improve the quality of patient care and create a healthy workplace for staff in collaboration with organizational leadership.


The Director will have the opportunity to influence clinical education strategy across a large, integrated healthcare system, as well as shaping workforce development, retention, onboarding, and professional growth initiatives for nursing and clinical teams. This is a high visibility role that collaborates frequently with nursing executives, operational leaders, and system stakeholders.


Responsibilities


  • Implement and evaluate orientation and continuing education programs based on learning needs, clinical priorities, and organizational resources.

  • Demonstrate a high level of initiative, work independently, and establish priorities that align with meeting organizational goals.

  • Analyze clinical information, statistical data, and evidenced based practice to formulate recommendations related to organizational development and operations.

  • Demonstrate sound fiscal responsibility in the development and management of the department budget and holds staff accountable for the efficient use of resources.

  • 90% system standardization for business units within scope of responsibility and champion change management initiatives in support of systematic changes in local business units.

  • Convey information and ideas clearly through a variety of media to individuals or groups in a manner that engages the audience and helps them understand and retain the message.

  • Develop departmental strategic business plan, in addition to the organization and system strategic plans.

  • Collaborate with senior leadership and clinical executive teams to resolve operational issues related to recruitment, retention, and shared governance.

  • Select, develop, and evaluate clinical education staff.

  • Take leading role in major region-wide projects and complex assignments. Participates in region-wide committees.

  • Lead efforts aimed at coaching, mentoring, and developing staff, rising leaders, managers, and clinical directors.

  • Responsible for the coordination of classroom and simulation education.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Nursing Education for the system to align local business units.
