Job summary

Community Health Systems seeks a Director of Clinical Education to lead strategic educational programs across the facility, advancing nursing and clinical staff development, and aligning initiatives with organizational objectives.

You will collaborate with Nursing Directors, Infection Control, and Quality Improvement to design targeted programs, oversee accreditation activities, and mentor a team of educators to promote evidence‑based care and performance excellence.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required or seven+ years of leadership experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Master’s degree preferred for advanced practice and leadership.
  • 3–5 years of leadership experience is desirable.

  • Develops, implements, and evaluates educational programs promoting clinical excellence.

Job Summary

The Director, Clinical Education is responsible for the strategic leadership, development, and management of comprehensive educational programs across the facility. This role ensures the continuous professional growth of nursing and clinical staff, alignment with organizational objectives, and compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements. The Director provides leadership in fostering clinical excellence, promoting evidence‑based practices, and supporting quality patient care initiatives.

Essential Functions
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates comprehensive educational programs and initiatives to promote clinical excellence and quality patient care across the organization.
  • Collaborates with Nursing Directors, Infection Control, Quality Improvement, Risk Managers, Physicians, and other healthcare professionals to assess staff educational needs and design targeted programs to meet those needs.
  • Coordinates with market, regional, and corporate education leadership to align facility‑level educational programs with enterprise‑wide strategic initiatives and objectives.
  • Supervises and mentors the education management team and clinical educators, providing guidance and support to achieve organizational educational goals.
  • Maintains a strong presence on nursing units, providing clinical expertise and supporting the development of nursing interventions and patient care strategies in accordance with policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Oversees regulatory compliance and accreditation activities related to clinical education, including managing resuscitation training and clinical certification programs to ensure compliance with applicable standards.
  • Establishes partnerships with educational institutions and community stakeholders to enhance the facility’s educational offerings and reputation, including maintaining clinical contracts and fostering relationships with academic programs.
  • Demonstrates expertise in teaching and adult learning principles to create impactful training programs that incorporate evidence‑based practices and align with identified learning needs.
  • Serves as a clinical resource to assist staff in assessing patient/family needs and implementing evidence‑based plans of care, maintaining up‑to‑date clinical knowledge and skills in acute care.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Leadership Responsibilities
  • Supervision and Staff Management
    • Provides leadership, mentorship and professional development opportunities for departmental staff.
    • Schedules employees to ensure effective use of resources. Consults with leadership on any potential staffing issues.
    • Conducts performance evaluations, sets goals and provides feedback to staff on their performance and development.
  • Strategic Planning and Financial Oversight
    • Collaborates with hospital leadership to set the strategic direction for the department, including budgeting, resource allocation and long‑term planning.
    • Monitors expenditures, ensuring cost‑effective delivery of services.
    • Evaluates and implements new technologies to enhance operational efficiency.
    • Develops and implements departmental policies and procedures and protocols to optimize quality and overall efficiencies.
  • Quality Assurance and Regulatory Compliance
    • Ensures compliance with all relevant regulatory bodies. May oversee the accreditation process with relevant agencies ensuring that services meet or exceed industry standards.
    • Participates in audits, inspections and accreditation processes as applicable.
    • Follows established quality control practices to ensure accuracy, consistency and safety.
  • Collaboration and Communication
    • Works closely with leadership teams to coordinate and improve service delivery.
    • Stays up‑to‑date with industry advancements, new technologies, and regulatory changes.
  • Staff Responsibilities
    • May work in a staff role, when required. Ensures that duties and responsibilities are fulfilled while meeting all competencies established for that job.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field required or
  • Seven (7) plus years of direct experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree required
  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • 3‑5 years of experience in closely related field with Bachelor’s degree required
  • 3‑5 years of previous leadership experience preferred

Licenses and Certifications
  • RN – Registered Nurse – State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure required
  • BCLS – Basic Life Support required
