Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System in Olathe is seeking a Director of Claims & Senior Counsel to oversee professional and general liability claims across multiple markets, including KC and surrounding communities. You will partner with the Office of the General Counsel to manage risk and litigation strategy.

This senior role requires leadership in clinical risk management, incident investigations, and coordination with risk and regulatory teams to promote a culture of safety.

Responsibilities

• Report, respond to, review, and resolve claims per the Communication and Resolution Program.
• Collaborate with facility or enterprise crisis management teams and medical staff leadership to facilitate investigations.
• Present claims to Claims Committees for TUKHS's Risk Retention Group and Captive.
• Contribute with senior leadership and legal counsel in formulating defense strategies.
• Counsel practitioners on root cause analysis meetings and investigations, providing support as needed.
• Notify the HCSF of potentially compensable events, claims, or lawsuits.
• Assist with preparation for trial, including sending litigation holds and discovery.
