Job summary

Horizon Media, a leader in data-driven marketing, seeks a Director of Business Intelligence to scale data products and educate teams. You will lead data modeling, dashboards, and analytics strategies across clients, while mentoring analysts and aligning BI initiatives with business goals.

Preferred candidates have strong SQL, cloud warehouse experience, and a track record of cross-functional impact. East-coast hours are preferred; remote options vary by role.

Job Summary

The Director, Business Intelligence will increase the use of data throughout Horizon Next and ensure that all team members have the data they need to inform their decision-making process. The Director will do this by leading the creation of data products and solutions that scale across our portfolio of clients. They will also drive education and adoption of these data products throughout the organization. The Director sets department goals for the Business Intelligence team and acts as the team’s representative to the leadership groups at Horizon Next.

What You’ll Do

50% –Develop and enhance the data and analytics capabilities of Horizon Next

• Lead data modeling and reporting efforts to make data as accessible as possible throughout Horizon Next


• Work with technical and non-technical stakeholders to improve current data & analytics processes and develop new capabilities that set us apart in the marketplace


• Improve and expand Horizon Next’s data and analytics infrastructure


• Build and improve the team’s data visualization and dashboard practices

30% – Drive education and adoption of data products across teams

• Promote the use of data and analytics across Horizon Next


• Educate non-technical team members on our data products and how best to use data to inform their decision making process


• Work with Horizon Next clients to understand their data and create impactful Analytics solutions

20% – Manage and mentor Business Intelligence Analysts and Senior Analysts

• Set the strategic direction for the Business Intelligence team and develop a roadmap for achieving them


• Teach and guide Business Intelligence team members on best practices and be a resource for them when they have questions


• Enhance the skills of the entire Business Intelligence team by creating and implementing new processes and tools that all members of the team can benefit from

Who You Are

• You have a background in or knowledge of the media, advertising, or direct-response industries


• You have a background in data or analytics, specifically in building analytical processes, automation, and tooling


• You have experience working with non-technical users to define business requirements & KPIs and translating those into code


• You are comfortable having one foot in the “business” world and one foot in the “processes & code” world


• You enjoy creating reusable, automatable, production-quality processes that can scale


• You have a strong background in SQL and care about code readability & reusability


• You have experience managing technical teams

Preferred Skills & Experience

Advanced degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Operations research or Equivalent work experience.

• 5 years experience in analytics, business intelligence, or a similar field


• 3 years experience in media, advertising, or similar industry


• 3 years using SQL in a work environment


• 3 years experience with a cloud data warehouse like Amazon Redshift, Google BigQuery, or Snowflake


• 1-2 years experience leading a team of technical Analysts

Preferred

• Experience with Git or a similar version control system


• Experience with Python or a similar programming language


• Experience with Presto, Hive, or Spark SQL


• Experience with BI or dashboard tools like Tableau, Looker, or Domo


• Experience with dbt (data build tool)

Salary Range

$175,000.00 - $190,000.00

A successful applicant’s actual base salary may vary based on factors such as individual’s skill sets, experience, training, education, licensure/certifications, and qualifications for the role. As an organization, we take an aptitude and competency-based hiring approach.
