Job summary

The Director, Business Development Wholesaling (BDW) at The Jackson National Life Insurance Company leads and trains a high-performing wholesale sales team, upholding integrity and compliance while fostering development and training for future External Wholesaler roles.

You will coach BDWs, coordinate with Licensing, Product Management, Marketing and DSMs, design territory plans, monitor performance, conduct reviews, interview candidates, and travel quarterly with External Wholesalers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or relevant experience required.
  • 5+ years of financial services industry experience required.
  • 2+ years of experience as a Desk Director required for current Internal Sales Desk associates.
  • Prior management or leadership experience preferred.
  • Prior external wholesaling experience preferred.
  • FINRA registrations and State Insurance License required.

Responsibilities

  • Trains BDWs to meet organizational sales goals.
  • Serves as a liaison with multiple Jackson departments (New Business Units, Licensing, Commissions, Broker Services, Product Management, Marketing).
  • Provides operational and sales support, coaching, and motivation to the team; builds sales presentations and territory management skills.
  • Develops associates for advancement to External Wholesaler or other Jackson positions.
  • Conducts development reviews and monitors BDW performance and compliance.
  • Interviews and participates in BDW candidate hiring.
  • Engages with Senior Internal Wholesalers and DSMs to align with EW needs.
  • Plans weekly and in-person meetings with DSMs; travel quarterly with EWs and 2-4 DSM regional meetings.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

Job Purpose

The Director, Business Development Wholesaling (BDW) is responsible for creating and sustaining a top performing sales environment operating at the highest level of integrity and compliance and fostering an environment for development and training to prepare Business Development Wholesalers (BDWs) for External Wholesaler (EW) positions.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Trains BDWs to meet organizational sales goals.
  • Serves as a resource to the National Sales Desk while acting as a liaison with various departments within Jackson, including but not limited to: New Business Units, Licensing, Commissions, Broker Services Management, Product Management, and Marketing.
  • Provides operational and sales support, sales coaching, and motivation to their team, including building sales presentations and teaching territory management skills.
  • Develops associates for successful career advancement to External Wholesaler or other Jackson positions.
  • Provides periodic development reviews for BDWs that evaluate performance objectives and core competencies.
  • Monitors sales calls and electronic communications to observe BDW’s demeanor, technical accuracy, sales ability, appointment quality, compliance, and adherence to company policies.
  • Performs miscellaneous special tactical and strategic projects as assigned by management.
  • Conducts interviews and participates in the hiring process for BDW candidates.
  • Engages with Senior Internal Wholesalers (IWs) to discuss candidacy for BDW program.
  • Works with Divisional Sales Managers (DSMs) to understand the evolving needs of EWs.
  • Builds weekly and in-person meeting agendas with DSMs.
  • Travels quarterly with EWs and attends DSM Regional Meetings 2-4 times per year.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of Jackson products, policies, procedures, and systems.
  • Ability to develop staff through training, guidance, feedback, and support.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to conduct a variety of sales and non-sales related training modules and deliver presentations.
  • Ability to define, set, implement, and monitor procedures.
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize while managing multiple tasks.
  • Must be a detail-oriented, well-organized self-starter with high energy, creativity, and the ability to adapt to change in a positive manner.
  • Must have the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to work in an office environment.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or relevant experience required.
  • 5+ years of financial services industry experience required.

  • Prior management or leadership experience preferred.
  • Prior external wholesaling experience preferred.
  • FINRA SIE, FINRA Series 6 or 7, FINRA Series 24 or 26, FINRA Series 63, and State Insurance License required.
  • Applicants without the required registrations will have 90 days to obtain them and will be limited in job function until complete registration is obtained .
