UTEP's College of Science comprises five academic departments: Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Earth, Environmental and Resource Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, and Physics. Research and education within the College extend from fundamental scientific discovery to applied work addressing challenges in human health, energy, materials, the environment, and data-intensive science. Undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to participate directly in research and to collaborate across traditional disciplinary boundaries. As an R1 institution, the College provides a setting in which faculty members pursue nationally and internationally significant scholarship while preparing students for careers in research, healthcare, education, industry, government, and public service. The College also advances UTEP's broader mission through scientific outreach, community engagement, and partnerships within and beyond the border region.
UTEP invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of the Border Biomedical Research Center (BBRC). The successful candidate will be appointed as a tenured Full Professor and will join the leadership team of UTEP's National Institutes of Health (NIH) U54 award, funded by the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) through the Research Centers in Minority Institutions (RCMI) Program. The BBRC is a hub for interdisciplinary biomedical research focused on Hispanic health disparities and priorities. The BBRC supports biomedical research across basic, behavioral, translational, implementation, and community-engaged domains; develops students and early-stage investigators; collaborates with community stakeholders and local health systems; and builds regional and national partnerships to address health disparities, disease mechanisms, and develop community-based interventions. The BBRC's accomplishments contributed to UTEP's attainment of the R1 Carnegie designation in 2019 and its reaffirmation in 2022. The BBRC seeks a visionary and nationally recognized biomedical scientist with a sustained record of NIH funding and funding from other agencies, demonstrated leadership of complex multidisciplinary research programs or centers, and a strong commitment to the missions of Minority-Serving and and/or Hispanic-Serving Institutions. The successful candidate will be appointed as a tenured Full Professor in a College of Science department consistent with their academic and research background and will report administratively to the Dean of the College of Science.
