Maintains accountability for business performance, talent development, resource management, and client service outcomes while ensuring the efficient delivery of legal services and operational excellence. Participates in strategic planning and supports initiatives across Staff Counsel. Partners with Staff Counsel leadership to drive operational improvements, implement business initiatives, develop talent, and advance organizational priorities that strengthen legal operations, enhance consistency across assigned offices, and support staff counsel’s goals.**Essential Functions:** Interviews and/or approves job applicants for employment. Conducts and/or reviews associate performance appraisals. Initiates or approves salary adjustments, performance ratings, and other personnel changes. Counsels associates and takes disciplinary action or terminates the employment of associates as appropriate. Identifies and analyzes complex issues, problems in management areas and recommends/implements solutions. Provides guidance on technical and procedural legal problems. Maintains knowledge base regarding changes and developments in the law affecting the negligence and insurance fields, as well as case law, ethics opinions, and statutes dealing with Staff Counsel issues. Reviews files and trials of all levels of Attorneys in court for professional proficiency including knowledge of file and trial techniques. Ensures attorneys, and appropriate staff, remain licensed and in good standing to practice law in applicable jurisdictions. Ensures they meet and maintain licensing requirements including mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements where applicable. Trains management team and attorneys as required and assigned and ensures that offices and attorneys meet critical and important business plan goals. Maintains communication between Staff Counsel and Claims management and schedules meetings as necessary. Manages local office and related legal activities, including suits, arbitrations, trials, compromise orders, EUOs, minor settlements and appeals as required. Leads in the opening of a new office and assists with current offices the preparation of department business plans, staffing projections and budgets. Assists the management team with requisitions supplies and materials necessary for efficient operation. Reviews plans and budgets regularly to achieve cost reduction where possible, when assigned. Adheres to the Code of Conduct, company policies, and operating principles. Meets attendance standard at business location to perform necessary job functions and to facilitate interaction with subordinates and management. Meets the requirements specified below: **Basic Qualifications:** Must have a minimum of twelve (12) years of litigation experience, including insurance defense or personal injury. For purposes of measuring total years of litigation experience, credit will be given for successful completion of Staff Counsel Leadership Program (SCLP), and for experience in other GEICO legal or claim department.**Liability experience is required.** Must be licensed in good standing to practice law in applicable jurisdictions and meet and maintain licensing requirements including mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements where applicable. Must be able, with or without accommodation, to perform the essential functions which include, but are not limited to, thinking (concentrating, focusing, assimilating information), reading, writing, listening, typing, speaking, bending, reaching, lifting, and standing for extended periods. Must be able to use a keyboard and a mouse. Must be able to access and utilize multiple pieces of office equipment that may require simultaneous use. Must be able to communicate in a professional manner in person, via telephone and written correspondence/email. Must be able to document files in a clear, concise, professional written manner, to be understood by customers, clients, co-workers and other employees of the organization. Must be able to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts or facilitate conflict resolution, and have strong organization/priority setting and multi-tasking skills. Must be able to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information. Must be able to travel up to 50% of the time, or as required, to Staff Counsel offices, Regional locations, management meetings and conferences. **Annual Salary**$179,375.00 - $280,850.00The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate.
