Opportunity Overview

The Director, AI Product Manager – AI Controls & Observability is responsible for driving the end‑to‑end development and delivery of AI platform capabilities to support safe, scalable, and reliable use of AI across Edward Jones in the build, management, and retirement of AI control & observability products from ideation through launch and ongoing optimization. This role translates business needs into actionable technical requirements, leads product discovery and validation efforts, and defines success metrics to evaluate product impact.

Unlike ‑Product Managers within the Digital Product Management organization, this role treats AI itself as the product—owning firmwide, reusable, and scalable AI platform capabilities that power AI Product Manager experiences rather than discrete applications.

This role centers on strategy, discovery, and value framing, working closely with each Business and Functional area to shape AI direction, identify high‑value opportunities, and expand the art of the possible for how AI can transform their domain. Digital Product Managers will often serve as customers of the AI Product Manager, and leverage AI Products as part of their offerings. Digital Product Managers will remain accountable for the execution, delivery, and lifecycle management of AI capabilities within products and portfolios. The Director, AI Product Manager partners closely with Digital’s Product Management teams to ensure enterprise AI capabilities can be easily integrated, adopted, and leveraged across the firm.

This role ensures the adoption of responsible AI practices and compliance with regulatory expectations, while clearly communicating progress, risks, and outcomes to stakeholders. Working in collaboration with colleagues in EJ Labs, Engineering, Data, Product Management, Experience, and the respective Business and Functional areas , the Director, AI Product Manager – AI Control & Observability ensures that AI platform capabilities deliver measurable value, maintain performance through ongoing monitoring, and support firmwide strategic objectives through shared AI capability development. The role acts as a connector throughout the full product lifecycle—navigating ideation, discovery, delivery, adoption, and iteration.

This position sits within the AI Platform Team inside EJ Labs, focused on building and managing the reusable AI platform capabilities that enable teams across the enterprise to clearly identify, observe, evaluate, and operate AI products through a consistent, standards‑based ecosystem, rather than developing one‑off or front‑end solutions.

What You'll Do
  • Translate business needs into clear and actionable technical requirements for AI Products - reusable AI capabilities.
  • Lead product discovery, validation, and iterative improvement processes with a focus on how AI control & observability products are embedded across many applications, tools, and internal teams.
  • Define and track product success metrics specific to AI control & observability product performance, reusability, adoption, and ongoing monitoring.
  • Conduct research and engage internal customers to inform AI platform capabilities.
  • Ensure responsible AI practices and compliance with regulatory requirements throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Drive the development and delivery of AI platform capabilities, ensuring they are not one‑off builds, but reusable, model driven products deployed across the organization.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in EJ Labs, Engineering, Data, Product Management, Experience, and the respective Business and Functional areas teams to test, deploy, and refine new AI platform capabilities and ensure alignment with enterprise AI standards.
  • Communicate product progress, updates, and outcomes to stakeholders across the organization.
  • Conduct market and user research to understand demand for reusable AI capabilities and anticipate model and agent centric enhancements.
  • Monitor and evaluate AI platform capability performance, implementing refinements as needed as part of ongoing product lifecycle management and governance.
  • Actively shape the definition and evolution of product AI capability vision and strategy in partnership with business and technology stakeholders to drive measurable business impact and outcome-oriented delivery.
  • Translate business goals, user insights, market trends, and product model and agent knowledge into product AI roadmaps, themes, initiatives, epics, and user stories—informing prioritization and hypothesis generation in collaboration with partners.
  • Support product delivery, adoption, and business impact through influence and collaboration, reinforcing outcome ownership while navigating shared accountability.
  • Collaborate with product leadership, delivery partners, and enabling teams to support resource coordination, delivery execution, and risk management across delivery teams.
  • Deploy and test new AI platform builder capabilities, ensuring reliability, explainability, and functional integration with a broad set of consuming systems and applications.
  • Own the lifecycle of AI platform builder capabilities—including versioning, performance monitoring, retraining plan development, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure EJ Labs’ AI platform capabilities are adopted by internal customers.

  • Product operating model methodologies, including AI driven PDLC.
  • AI technologies and their applications in business contexts.
  • Metrics and frameworks for tracking product AI model and agent success and impact.
  • Responsible AI practices and regulatory compliance requirements.
