Make a greater impact on lives through a digitally enabled enterprise. We are working towards our aspiration of shaping the future of Pharma. Backed by investment at every step, we harness the latest technology, data, and innovative ways of working to introduce new approaches that put Digital at AstraZeneca’s heart.

Be part of a chapter that’s still being written. Trusted and empowered to change the way things are done, with the tools and support to get you there. Here we are free to unleash our curiosity and turn thinking into reality where smart risks and quick decisions come together to power disruption and innovation.

Office Locations: This is an on-site, office-based role. Please consider the following AZ US HUB locations – Wilmington, DE

This is a product leadership role: you will own the end-to-end lifecycle of AI-powered applications that go into the hands of field and headquarters teams, driving decisions that affect patients and brands at scale.

The Role

The Director, AI Product Development is part of the AI for Commercial (AIC) team within the newly founded Enterprise AI organization. You will lead the design, build, launch, and adoption of GenAI and ML-powered products that serve Global and US functions including commercial, medical, market access, and patient programs. You define the roadmap, drive cross-functional execution, and are accountable for measured business impact.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own the full AI product lifecycle: from problem definition and customer research through AI development, UX design, deployment, adoption, and measurement. This means shipping products, not delivering reports.
  • Lead GenAI and agentic AI product development. Define product requirements and functional specifications for AI-powered applications, agentic workflows, and ML-driven tools serving medical, commercial, and field teams.
  • Translate business questions into product requirements. Partner with Marketing, Medical Affairs, GIBEX, Field Operations, and IT to align product capabilities with brand objectives, field workflows, and launch timelines.
  • Partner with technical delivery leads, engineering, and data science teams, translate requirements into scalable and governed solutions, ensure high-quality, timely execution. Establish clear RACI, maintain alignment on priorities, and drive accountability across a cross-functional delivery model.
  • Drive adoption and impact measurement. Define success criteria before launch; track usage, output quality, and downstream business impact post-launch. Communicate results to leadership with clarity.
  • Operate within enterprise AI governance. Navigate compliance requirements, data access controls, vendor management, and IT approval processes. Ensure all products are deployed responsibly and with appropriate documentation.
  • Stay current with GenAI, agentic AI, and pharma AI trends. Identify emerging capabilities with strategic fit, pilot solutions with speed and rigor, and champion a platform-centric approach that enables reuse, scalability, and accelerated deployment across functions and markets.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, Economics, or equivalent); advanced degree preferred
  • 7+ years of experience building and shipping data science or AI products in a commercial setting; 3+ years of experience in building Gen AI tools and platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience owning an AI product end-to-end: requirements, development, deployment, and post-launch measurement
  • Familiarity with LLMs, prompt engineering, RAG architectures, and/or agentic frameworks (e.g., LangChain, LlamaIndex, or similar)
  • Fluency in Python and ML/AI tooling; experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Strong product thinking: ability to define user needs, write clear requirements, prioritize a backlog, and communicate tradeoffs to customers
  • 3+ years in Pharmaceutical or Life Sciences; familiarity with commercial data and field-facing workflows
Desirable Requirements
  • Experience building GenAI products under enterprise governance requirements
  • Background spanning multiple functions: Commercial, Medical Affairs, Market Access, or Insights & Analytics
  • Demonstrated ability to drive user adoption: training, change management, and usage analytics
  • Experience managing external suppliers and consultants against defined deliverables and timelines
  • Strong executive communication skills; comfortable presenting product roadmaps and cases to senior leadership in a matrixed organization
