Department

DEPADM

The Director of Accounts Payable will lead, transform, and scale our enterprise-wide disbursement operations. In this role, you will be the chief architect of our AP processes and workflows, bringing deep process-design expertise to optimize our complex procure-to-pay (P2P) cycle. You will also serve as a strategic organizational designer, assessing and restructuring team roles and responsibilities to create a scalable, high-performing shared services function. This role requires an expert leader who understands the nuances of high-volume purchase order based payables and manufacturing supply chain purchasing. A critical component of this role will be steering the AP department through our active migration from Deltek Costpoint to Oracle Fusion.

We are looking for an Accounts Payable Director to redesign how our AP function works and how it is organized, then lead it to consistent, measurable performance. This is a builder's role: the priority is sound process design and a sustainable team structure, not simply managing today's volume. The successful candidate will assess our dependency on temporary workforce, define the right shape and size of the team, and put in place the processes, controls and capabilities that let AP run reliably without it. You will be the senior owner of the purchase-to-pay cycle from invoice receipt to payment, and a key partner to Procurement, Treasury, the wider Finance team and budget holders across the business.

This position is fully onsite in the North Dallas/ Plano area
Location & Work Policy
  • This is an on-site/hybrid position requiring four days in-office and allowing one day of work from home (WFH) per week.
  • The one-day WFH benefit becomes available following the successful completion of an initial 90-day onboarding period.
What you will do?
AP Process Architecture & Continuous Improvement
  • Mapping Current State: Map the current end-to-end AP process, from invoice receipt and coding through approval, matching, payment and query resolution, and identify bottlenecks, rework and control gaps.
  • Standardized Process: Design and implement a standardized target process, with clear handoffs, documented procedures and defined service levels.
  • CI Culture: Lead continuous improvement using recognized methods such as Lean or Six Sigma, building a culture where the team spots and fixes problems themselves.
  • Automation: Identify opportunities for automation and system improvements, including e-invoicing, OCR capture, workflow approvals and ERP optimization, and build the business case for them.
  • Performance Improvement: Reduce manual touchpoints, exceptions and duplicate or late payments through better upstream controls, such as PO compliance and supplier master data standards.
  • P2P Optimization: Standardize the end-to-end procure-to-pay pipeline across both the construction management and manufacturing business units, reducing cycle times and eliminating processing bottlenecks.
  • Workflow Automation Design: Lead the assessment, design, and implementation of robust AP workflows and touchless processing within Oracle Fusion to seamlessly handle heavy purchase order (PO) and three-way matching environments.
Organizational Design & Leadership
  • Team Structure Architecture: Evaluate, design, and implement an optimal team structure, defining clear roles, specialized functions (e.g., matching specialists, inquiry response, compliance clerks, vendor set-up), and clear career paths.
  • Talent Development & Management: Recruit, mentor, and upskill a high-performing AP department, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and customer service.
  • Capacity Planning: Establish operational KPIs, tracking metrics, and resource-modeling strategies to ensure the team structure effectively scales with company growth. Set team objectives, manage performance and foster an engaged, accountable team culture.
  • Reduce Temp Workforce: Develop and deliver a plan to reduce reliance on temporary staff, through process efficiency, permanent hiring or both.
  • Task Coverage: Build cross-training and succession cover so that no critical task depends on a single person.
  • Mentorship: Lead, coach and develop the AP Manager as a direct report, strengthening their ability to run day-to-day operations.
ERP Migration & System Implementation
  • Oracle Fusion Transition: Serve as the AP functional lead for our active migration from Deltek Costpoint to Oracle Fusion, ensuring all operational requirements are mapped, tested, and successfully deployed for our mid-2027 go-live.
  • System Design & Testing: Partner with IT and implementation consultants to design Oracle Fusion P2P workflows, manage user acceptance testing (UAT), and execute data-cleansing strategies for vendor master data and historical AP balances.
  • Change Management: Develop training documentation and lead the AP team through the system transition, minimizing disruptions to vendor payments and month-end closes.
Risk Mitigation, Controls & Compliance
  • Internal Controls: Design and enforce stringent internal controls, separation of duties, and fraud-prevention mechanisms across both current and future ERP systems.
  • Vendor Master Data Integrity: Oversee the strict governance of the vendor master database to eliminate duplicate payments, prevent procurement fraud, and manage annual 1099 compliance.
  • Audit Response: Support internal and external audits and ensure compliance with tax, regulatory and payment-term obligations.
Strategic & Financial Collaboration
  • Cash Flow Coordination: Partner closely with Treasury and Accounting to align disbursement schedules with cash forecasting, weekly payment files processing, capital allocation targets, and manufacturing inventory requirements.
  • Cross-Functional Synergy: Collaborate with Procurement, Estimating, Project Management, and Plant Operations to resolve purchase order variances, receiving discrepancies, and contractual disputes early.
  • Financial Close Leadership: Manage the AP month-end close process, including accruals, reconciliations, supplier statements, and reporting, ensuring accuracy and speed.
Required Qualifications
  • Education: Accredited Payables Manager (APM) certification is a strong plus, along with a Lean, Six Sigma or other process improvement certification. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Supply Chain, or Business Administration is preferred.
  • Experience: 8 to 12+ years of progressive leadership experience in Accounts Payable or Financial Operations, with at least 5 years leading departmental strategy and team structuring.
  • ERP System Expertise: Proven experience migrating financial systems is required. Hands-on experience with Deltek Costpoint and/or Oracle Fusion (Cloud) is highly desirable.
  • Industry Background: Proven experience in a General Contracting, Engineering/Construction (E&C), or complex Manufacturing environment is required.
  • Proven Track Record: Demonstrated success in mapping, designing, and rolling out enterprise-wide AP processes from scratch, alongside a history of successfully building or restructuring accounting teams. In addition, there needs to be proven success in achievement of KPI targets in high-volume transactional environments.
