Job summary

cable-services is seeking a Directional Bore Operator/Locator in Scranton, PA. This role involves operating equipment for directional drilling, ensuring safety, and completing necessary documentation. An ideal candidate will have hands-on experience and meet Class A CDL requirements.

Weekly travel is required, with the company covering hotel expenses. Applicants from the United States only, please.

Qualifications

• Previous rock boring experience is a plus.

Job description

Directional Bore Operator/ Locator Summary/Objective This position performs tasks required for the operation of directional drill including set-up and bore path completion for the construction/upgrade of communications conduit, gas, water, sewer, etc.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Load and unload directional bore equipment in a manner that is secure and damage free
• Transport associated tools, materials and/or equipment in a safe manner
• Complete a daily inspection on bore equipment prior to commencing work
• Prepare the drill fluid based on site conditions prior to boring commencing
• In conjunction with bore crew, locate/operate the directional drill using the selected bore heads and back reamers to place cables
• Operate horizontal directional drill equipment in accordance with company and industry standards
• Responsible for locating cables and verification in accordance with blueprints
• Identify utilities in the construction area and bore path
• Connect/stub-up conduit and wire
• Dig pits, trenches or potholes as required including windows when crossing utilities
• Restore and/or landscape disturbed areas of the jobsite
• Accurately complete all required company documentation for each assignment according to established company standards and procedures (i.e. timesheet, vehicle log, expense report)
• Adhere to all established company safety policies and perform work in a safe manner
• Perform other duties and tasks as assigned in order to help team complete a project

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Ability to read and interpret engineering/construction prints, plans and specifications
• Knowledge of utility depths and placements
• Possess general knowledge of construction practices
• Ability to work in various environments/settings with moderate to loud noise levels
• Ability to work in trenches, manholes and tunnels
• Must have attention to detail and be thorough in completing work tasks

• Ability to move materials/equipment weighing up to 80 pounds
• Ability to manage multiple tasks with changing priorities to meet deadlines in a fast paced environment with constant interruptions

• Able to work 10+ hours in a day when necessary
• Willing to work outside in varying weather conditions

Preferred Education and Experience

• One year of experience operating a directional borer preferably in the telecommunications field
• Previous rock boring experience

Class A CDL required.

Travel

Weekly travel is required for this position. Company will pay hotel expenses (shared room) and per diem.
