Graphic Designer I

Department: Academic Affairs and Workforce Innovation

General Statement of Job

The Graphic Designer I develops visual concepts and designs using digital tools for various print and online publications that support the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs Division. Responsible for designing annual program booklets, brochures, fliers, posters, postcards, and reports. Collaboration with instructional departments to develop visual concepts and designs according to specifications and revising designs based on feedback.

Essential Functions
  • Develops visual concepts and designs using digital tools for various print and online publications.
  • Collaborates with instructional departments to develop visual concepts and designs according to specifications and revising designs based on feedback.
  • Produces Desktop publishing for assigned projects.
  • Responsible for providing layout and design for various print and online publications, such as annual program booklets brochures, fliers, posters, postcards, and reports.
  • Creates artwork, images, text, and graphic design for publications and reports.
  • Works as part of a team to ensure assigned projects are accurate and timely.
  • Documents and maintains ongoing status reports of projects.
  • Meets critical deadlines.
  • Presents and proposes design solutions to supervisor and internal clients.
  • Uses technology and software to create images and layout of websites and printed pages.
  • Prepares flowcharts and graphics for PowerPoint presentations.
  • Assist with internal design and development of projects in collaboration with Public Relations and Marketing.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience

Associate’s Degree in Graphic Design, Art, or related field required. At least one (1) year of relevant work experience, preferred. Ability to work with other departments, such as the Department of Public Relations to coordinate college-level projects. Familiarity with video software.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, the Windows environment, and internet research skills.
  • Desktop publishing knowledge with strong graphic design and page layout skills.
  • Proficient in the use of graphic design software including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and complete multiple tasks with attention to detail, within stated deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently as well as a team player within department and with others.
  • Ability to adapt to constant change and periods of fast-paced, high-intensity work situations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to achieving the vision and mission of South Texas College.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of organization.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to work with other departments, such as the Department of Public Relations to coordinate college-level projects.
