Job summary

Life's New Beginning is seeking Direct Support Professionals to work in one-person homes in York, PA. The DSP will teach daily living skills, ensure health and safety, and support community participation.

Must have experience with IDD, trauma-informed care, and mental health; must be 18+, hold a GED or high school diploma, and a PA driver’s license with 2 years of driving experience. CPR/First Aid and related trainings provided.

Qualifications

• Must have experience with individuals with IDD who exhibit behaviors that may result in significant physical harm
• Trauma informed care experience is required
• Mental health experience is required
• Must have a calm demeanor and respond in the moment in unpredictable environments
• Must be emotionally strong and able to pass background checks
• Must be 18 years or older and have a high school diploma or GED
• Valid PA driver’s license with 2 years driving experience and driving in community settings
• Ability to read, speak, and write English and complete mandated trainings (CPR, First Aid, Med Administration, Safe Crisis Management)

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care and teach daily living skills (cooking, self-care, hygiene, laundry, cleaning, shopping)

Requirements For DSP One Person Home Position

• Must have experience working with individuals with IDD that exhibit behaviors that may result in significant physical harm to self and others
• Must have trauma informed care experience
• Must have mental health experience
• Must have a calm demeanor
• Must be able to respond in the moment due to an unpredictable environment
• Must be emotionally strong
• Health care experience is a plus
• Must be able to perform emergency physical safety interventions
• Must be 18 years or older
• High school diploma or GED
• Valid PA driver's license
• 2 years driving experience
• Various schedules available.
• Must be able to pass a background check
• Ability to read, speak, and write English
• Participate and successfully complete required training (includes but not limited to CPR, First Aid, Med Administration, Safe Crisis Management)
  

Life's New Beginning is looking for motivated individuals with a passion for care to take on the role of Direct Support Professional. The role of the DSP is to provide direct care while teaching daily living skills (cooking, self-care, hygiene, laundry, cleaning, shopping), health and safety skills, social skills, and relationship building skills. The DSP also provides support in the community and during social, recreational, and/or leisure activities. The DSP's role is also that of a mentor who will encourage and foster independence.

Residential Programs: We have one and two-person residential homes in which the DSPs provide individualized care and support, teach concepts of daily living and promote community involvement. This position is specifically for one of our one person homes. This role is the most integral position when providing services and support to individuals with intellectual disabilities. The position requires patience, care, understanding, and compassion. It is also important that the DSP is responsible, reliable, honest, and has the ability to make effective decisions as well as possess the ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

About Us
Founded in 2015, Life's New Beginning is a non-profit agency in York, PA providing services and support to individuals with intellectual disabilities. LNB provides person-centered services to individuals with a primary diagnosis of an intellectual disability both in residential homes (owned and operated by LNB) and in the community (Companion and CPS Program). LNB adheres to trauma informed care practices.
